Okay- now I know this would be an absolutely radical change to R:WL, but researching techs in order to improve units and such would completely change the game. Like you would start your account with the same as normal, but only with rats. Then, you could build libraries (just my idea for the buildings to hold researchers) and devote your researchers to learn a new tech.
For instance, you could research trench warfare for weasels. Then, there would be 2nd level, 3rd level etc. An example of 2nd level would be Parrellel trenches: weasel off/def ratings change from 2/6 to 2/8. And then 3rd level would be Defensive strategy: when attacked by land, your weasels will always be used for defense.
Then for seafaring, you could research seafaring in order to build docks to produce 1st level fishing ships and 1st level warships. Then, you could have different warships strong against other types. You could also have trade ships to go to other clan's ports and gain money, and clans could have tariffs and commision, and trade embargos.
I think everyone gets the idea. While adding something like this would change the R:WL gameplay dramatically, and while it would probably take like 1/2 year to implement, the game would broaden up to a very different level, allowing real specialization and strategy to come into play. The game would become even more vast and incredible then it is right now.

Okay, not bad. But how do you deal with people just starting the game?

It would seem that those that signed up the first day would pumple the rest of the people because they would have better armies.  Then there would not be land grabs at the higher ranks, but kills because you would make them start over and there would be no way for them to ever catch up.  So noe people will find the game useless and dead warlords will wait for the reset.

Can you find a way around this?

 I can't.
AOE is prolly where you got this from, but the thing with that, is everyone starts off equal, and can't join midway through.
Maybe for a specialised server, like Duels, where signups are closed, and all start together, but incorporating it into reg and Turbo won't work.

First, i don't think research should change the attack ratio, thats too durastic. Research is an idea i've thought about before, but i think making it so that the entire ratio is changed makes the game way to unbalenced. Unpredictability is good... but unbalenced isn't.

But you have struck an idea, i think researching different abilitys is a REALLY good idea, have it so you've rats effectiveness is 102% better then meaning its only just a little bit better. that would make every warlord different which i think would make it feel like you've put a lot more work into your empire and are a lot more attached.

What you have to do for new people is create an edge, something they have that people who've been playing for a while wont. i can't think of one now... but its 4 AM so i'm a lil slow.

Also, the research should depend on your NW. so if you have say 1000 research points on rat effectiveness, and are 20 million NW, you have a 105% effectiveness, but when you have that on 100 million NW, its onle like 101% effectiveness.

Sounds a whole lot like epicurus, to stop the new person problem we should have sets. Monthly sets in regular would solve so many problems.

Not enough land, nor as much fun limited by time in a slow game. Be what we have Turbo for, but even that would be unfair.

Holby where you talking about the sets? We don't have to have mothly sets bi-monthly or even tri-monthly sets would be good on regular.

no, regular should go as long as possible.... thats the whole point of it.

I think that the whole idea of research would be that it would take specialization to a whole new level. Also, I took these ideas from the Civilization games (not Epicurus, tho that game is fun too). Also, another cool idea would be like you can only research certain things once you reach a certain networth, so that, yes, eventually, someone would be able to make a huge, all-powerful horde, but, since the research could give specialization, aka stronger skiffs or something like that, then a bunch of smaller hordes would easily destroy the massive one. That's what I'm trying to get across: with research, the game would be so interesting simply because no one would be invincible.

We dont' exactly have a problem with invincibility atm. but i think it would be cool if you got the oppertunity to research certain things once you reach certain levels, get 5 million skiffs and you'll get the chance to research Skiff speed or something.
