Title: Camping online
Post by: Firetooth on May 02, 2011, 01:09:00 PM
(see also my thread in turbo)

Camping online is basically staying online so nobody will hit you as they will be "online," and so you can hit them back as soon as they do.

Right, so what are your views on a warlord camping online? I think it is a nasty tactic that should be discouraged/banned. It rewards those who have more time then others which is, to be honest, pretty unfair. All of today I was unable to do a run n decent land because a warlord was locking, and when I did break he onlined me because he was camping.

I don't see your problem, eventually they have to go offline, and eventually someone (not necessarily you) will break them

They'll also get a pretty bad reputation as a result of it

It would be pretty difficult to ban someone over this, you'd either have to have someone continually monitoring turbo, or have to code something in that would report players for being online for more than x hours, which I think would be a bit stupid . . .

Banning someone for this is a little extreme. Camping online is not against the rules. It falls under the same category as online attacking: dirty tactics. Dirty tactics are not against the rules, and may be used in extreme cases as an act of war.

If someone is camping online, they are practically begging to be online-attacked.

Banned is probably a little extreme. I think stuff like this gives people an unfair advantage. Maybe that's just me.

Camping is annoying, but simple to deal with. No need for punishment beyond what players dish out.

This. Unless it can be proven that the player in question is using questionable means to keep themselves online while going out and doing their thing IRL.

Whenever I am home, I am online in the game and on here usually.

I usually get messages, but if i don't respond to them within 5 minutes, the person normally just does what they're going to do.

But if I catch them doing something I (or most) don't agree with, they will get some retalitory shots, and should not whine about it.

Good post, but that said, Sevz (claims he, I don't actually know) is retired. All day he kept going on and gaining land. I went out for a few hours, and when I came back he was online and had gained land. Pretty much all of today when I have been on, except his rage quit, he has been online, albeit occasionally going (or appearing, he may have still had the tab open) offline for 10mins.

If he gets belligerent when you scrape land, work around him or delay your run.

You have a month, it's not like you need to do it RIGHTNOWOMG.

Firetooth i am thinking you are making too big of a deal about this. Its a dirty tactic and if they have time they can do it. Theres nothing wrong with it, just allows players to online attack you. Just play the game and stop complaining about everything you see "wrong" in your eyes. Its part of the game and deal with it no need to make topic after topic to increase your number of posts so you can say your a "vet." (which your not maybe by playing time but not by skill)

If someone does this a lot, the best thing to do is just online them and be done with it. After a few ruined runs, they will stop doing it.

Sorry Shael the last part was a personal attack just because he makes a big deal about whatever Sevah does. I thought I would throw a little flame back. But seriously, Firetooth, you don't need to post everything you see as bad.

So if I see you when I come on 6 hours later and gained land since then I can say your camping.

...right, I won't even bother replying to the first part, but I've been here way longer then you and done way more the you (you haven't won a round, participated in evenly balanced wars or been part of an emp team), so keep that in perspective before you start accusing me of a lack talent. It's unnecessary and you don't really know enough about me, or other members, to judge their abilities. You and me are also not in the best books, so suddenly insulting me unprovoked is perhaps not the best idea,, especially when I have been trying to be nice to you.

(note, I don't think I'm the best player here or anything, but as Unga would say, "ImjustSaiyan.jpeg"

QuoteSo if I see you when I come on 6 hours later and gained land since then I can say your camping.
Huh? He was staying online without using turns (except to gain land) and didn't respond to messages (except with blanks) so he clearly was camping. Besides, the fact he onlined me proved tis.

You know I am pushing you around now to see how you react. But camping online is not always what it seems to be...I have been online for almost two hours now. Do you consider that camping?

Well, you keep doing it, and it isn't necessary. Insulting me for no reason doesn't impress anybody and will just end up with you getting into trouble.

If you have land and are doing so with the intention of keeping that land, yes.

Yes when I am willing to give my stats away so people can hit if they ask  otherwise yes I plan on keeping it. Don't impress anyone...this is online game I don't impress I am only here to amaze lol. JK. I am here to show skills just like in Halo Reach and COd Black ops(where I break those spawn kills)
Title: Re: Camping online

Camping is staying online for an extended period and telling people you are running so they won't attack you. It is different from just being online.
Title: Re: Camping online
Post by: Twilight Shadow on May 02, 2011, 02:46:12 PM
Yes but, unknown told me I could attack him, so he wasnt camping for me. It maybe that he just dislikes your approach at situations or your history with him.
Title: Re: Camping online
Post by: Firetooth on May 02, 2011, 02:50:40 PM
Unknown hit me as soon as I took land. He said it was because I "onlined" him, but he had been trying to lock and had already ran that day. When Shadow attacked him, he also onlined them. He was staying on to stop people taking his land.

I am here to show skills just like in Halo Reach

You play Reach!? What rank are you?

Edit: Sorry for going completely off topic but I'll try to add something

It was obvious that Unknown Quantity was camping and trying (albeit badly) to lock for some reason, if this player is sevz, he was probably trying to do it to impress everyone . . . which he failed at

And Firetooth I think TS has a little bit of a point about you making topics about Sevah's wrongdoings . . . I mean you posted not one but two topics about it? Sure it's a dirty tactic, but get over and try to leave it in game when possible

Colonel grade 2. But have play against a clan of...forerunner, two mythics and a brig and beat them with my friend. They used the credit cheat when the game first came out.

NUMBR1DER is my gamertag for XBOX360

To stay with the topic:
***edit: If he did lock successfully would have been impressive. And he would have won the round with ease if he was able to hold out against an indy. But thanks for agree with me sharpy on the firtooth hating sevah topics lol

No I didn't, that's an assumption. I made the thread because I was reminded of the issue because of Sevah. I mentioned him as an example of somebody with an unfair advantage, but I didn't really bring him into it until other people mentioned him.

Haha Krowdon, being online is perfectly fine. It is only camping if you are using a few turns every 10 minutes to look like you are running and hogging the land.

New Turbo theme. Stars next to all the players and the net and land keeps changing. Mail takes 20 minutes to be delivered. This way everyone looks like they are on line and no way to check.  We can call it "intense anger". Hehe.

I support this man's aspirations. Then I wouldn't have to sit here logged in all day. It gets irritating having to swap tabs and refresh the game while I collapse categories on the forums.

If someone's online ask them when they're finished and allow 5minutes for a reply, 15minutes from when they last moved and if they hit you while your running put a price on their head.

imperfect AND a good base? your compliments are flowing

as for sevz method, 5 minutes is pretty standard i suppose but i usually give it 10 minutes because your either a fool or a noob if you leave it 10 minutes between a run unless your planning.

Title: Re: Camping online

It isn't the best plan, but it is a good idea. Like if they're not caring about your message, you can accuse them but they might defend themselves for this. I think it's a little hard to come down on someone for this, considering that somebody might leave their computer on by accident, or some other thing that is kind of unrelated to them.
Title: Re: Camping online
Post by: Pippin on September 10, 2011, 03:41:34 PM
well leaving your computer on, on accident while running is a stupid move and they deserve to be punished.

if you don't reply cause your ignorant or can't be bothered expect to be attacked.
Title: Re: Camping online

you are only marked as online if you have refreshed the page since the last turn refresh. If you leave your computer on, you will be marked offline.
Title: Re: Camping online
Post by: Uiblis on September 10, 2011, 09:15:39 PM
Usually I send a message. If they respond I attack, if not I wait until the next turns are given and see if the star thing has disappeared.
If not then they are still online, or at least was online for the past minute or two. Then I just keep refreshing the score page every minute to see if their net changes. If not I attack anyway.

Note: a while is variable and depends on how much waiting you are willing to endure.
Title: Re: Camping online
Post by: Shadow on September 10, 2011, 09:22:49 PM
I send a message and wait 2 minutes. Sometimes less. If people are actively running, there is no reason to be going 2 minutes without refreshing things.

It has only caused problems twice, and both times the people who new and had no idea what "running" meant.
