Title: Picture Thread
Post by: windhound on July 09, 2011, 02:28:58 PM
I like to play around with my camera and occasionally end up with something halfway decent, inwhich case I'll post it here
If you got some pictures you took yourself, post!

Great pictures, windy.

You're so close to natureish things! You should make little Redwall figurines and pretend they're wandering around Mossflower!

Your fingers look they've been through a lot lol.  I like it, whatever it is, a robotic mouth? The way the images are highlighted is also pretty cool.

I basically make weird robot things.

And yeah, my fingers are all kinds of gluey now. I think I'm going to have to leave glueing for a while to allow myself to recover

Random bits an pieces Ashy
curious, what do you do with your projects when you're done?

...
Fixed up an old GE fan over the weekend:

Before

After
(http://i.imgur.com/AJPkQ.jpg)

Ended up with an unfortunate amount of overspray on the cage, but 's good enough
Replaced the cord and head wire, cleaned and lubricated everything and it runs great.  Amazing how well built it is, you really can't find them like this anymore

Forgive the atrocious quality.

Pics are of some old double barrel 10 gauge shotgun I had recently. Has no markings on it whatsoever so I have no idea how old it is or where it was made. Still works perfectly even with modern rounds.

@wonds: they're all done for college reasons, but after they've been graded or whatever they just sit in my room :P If I make something too big to take home I have to bin it though, which is sad.
That fan is pretty chillin'. It literally looks new and I wouldn't be surprised if there was a bit of money in fixing up old things like that.

Knew I had a picture thread started somewhere, forgot it was over a year and a half old...  time flies eh?

Went up to the mountains over the weekend, it was absolutely beautiful and the wild ponies were out and about
tbh I was hoping I wasn't too late for leaf color; I was but it was nice anyways.

Yep, those are my two twits
Grayson Highlands State Park in Virginia, sort of an odd park as the way most people find it is to stumble upon it.  Beautiful out there, will go back when its warmer.

Necromancer here.

My old roommate apparently left this when he moved out a year ago, so I decided to try using it.

It's an Olympus OM-G (seriously) 35mm camera. I cleaned it off a bit, got some film for it and tried to figure out how to use it right. Trouble is every tutorial online is for digital cameras and even if they weren't I'd have no idea what they're talking about. I managed to put the film in it and took a few shots of random stuff but obviously I have no way of knowing how they'll turn out besides hoping the viewfinder is a reliable representation. Any pointers? Keep in mind that the most complex camera I've ever used is the one on my phone.

I learned photography on a camera like that. Is it a manual wind, or automatic? (Manuals have a big lever you use to advance the film) Does it have features that allow you to change shutter speed? They are usually called f-stops. I think F-stop 7 is the best for most light. The viewfinder in that type of camera is an exact representation of what you will see in the picture, BTW, there are mirrors that bounce the image from the lens to the viewfinder.

It's manual wind. From what I can tell shutter speed can be adjusted, but it also has an automatic mode where it choses it for you (even displays it in the viewfinder, neat!)

Do these cameras have trouble in dim spaces? I know on my phone for example I'll be able to see just fine but the phone won't.
Title: Re: Picture Thread
Post by: Shadow on September 01, 2015, 04:48:00 PM
that should be dependent on the shutter speed. Longer shutter = more light collected
Title: Re: Picture Thread

That's good to know then, considering it has no flash. I finished up the trial film today and will try to get it developed as soon as possible. Only then will I be able to know for sure if it works and how well, or at least if I did everything right.

if you want to do very long shutters make sure you place it on something stable. Otherwise it will come out blurry if there is significant movement while the shutter is open.
Title: Re: Picture Thread
Post by: Ungatt Trunn II on September 01, 2015, 09:20:01 PM
I put it on the longest shutter. It clicked and never went back. Luckily I hadn't put any film in it yet.

Yeah, longer shutter speeds will improve it's performance in dim light. There might be a detachable flash, that you can buy separately. The automatic mode should do fine for most pictures though. With manual wind cameras, you can do cool things, like double exposures to create ghost effects. Some of them won't let you click the shutter again until you've wound the camera though.
