 I usually check it everytime I visit the forums.

 Only when I see new topics.

 I check only when there is something new.  However, sometimes people post on old topics so I miss an anuncment.  I really don't care nor want to read the chatter that people have about what the admin says, but I need to read the first post.  

Maybe a Star on the post for the first 24 hours after a new topic?

 I check when I see a new topic, or someone tells me I should check. ^_^
