A forum is a place for people to talk and express their ideas. This creates a community where people can interact.  Healthy discussions inspire people to further educate themselves based on the opinions of others and the skills of debate. 

However, closed minded statements, poor debate skills, flaming, taunting, and generally making infuriating comments to force a response is what will kill a community.
