Lord Lupine caressed Spitter, his bone spear, lovingly. Lupine was a sable timber wlf. His kind ruled over lesser canines; gray wolves, Northern wolves, coyotes, and hyenas all followed them. His band of wolves sat in the shoreline, waiting for something to come.
Then Lupine heard it.

Aarak paused in the bushes watching, always watching.  He had been following this band of wolves looking for information, specifically about his past.  With any luck this lead would pay off and he was following the right fox.

"Salamandastron, you double-edged blade.  You keep the area free of corsairs and scum like them from the sea, but it also keeps the local scum on high alert.  And how is a guy supposed to gather information without losing his life," he muttered, only a little to loudly as what looked to be the leader turned to his direction.  "Why me?", as turned to leave a figure was standing behind him.

"Why hello, matey" said the figure.  "Parsnips", thought Aarak

Summer, week 7, day 4

We've been sailing for some time now, and Salamandastron is only half a day away, or as that strange hare from that place calls it, 12 hours. I noticed a stowaway on board, but I'll leave him be at the moment. Right now, Salamandastron is our destination, and our first concern are the band of ruffians lurking nearby. Let's hope for the best of luck.

Captain Derrik Kilder

Jingo crept down from the great oak, meeting Dubruck at the bottom. They were on a mission.

Jingo put a paw to his lips "Sh! You take that side and I'll take this. Wait for my signal" "Sure thing bro." Bru crept around the other side of the tunnel and stopped. "Ready? Grab that side of the pot." "Haha, now'll see if how well they can swim," wispered Jingo. Together, the two young squirrels tipped over the big pot of dishwater, right into the mouth of the tunnel. WOOOOOOOSHHHHH!!

Lord Tulstil the Harvester perched at the summit if Salamandastron. Harvester his deadly black- bladed scythe lay close at paw. The badger sat, ever watching, ever still.

Today, since no vermin have been trying to capture Redwall or torture some woodlanders, there was a feast.
What a glorious waste of provisions.
That Tulstil is skulking in his room and all the hares are stuffing their faces like there's no t0morrow. Me? I'll most likely go to the beach to watch the vermin and hope they don't try an attack. The last army that tried were mutilated
        ~Phillip

The hare finished the entry into his notebook. He doubted anyone would ever read it, let alone care about it. The aged general walked outside, viewing the vermin's every move, seeing the captive mouse tied up and being hauled to a roaring fire. Wait a second... a captive! The hare dashed towards the mouse, pulling out his best dagger to throw at the closest enemy. Maybe today wouldn't be as bad as he thought it would be.

We were wide awake in an instant. Pa lept out of bed and went pounding, or should I say, squelching down the hall and out the front door. Grandma was shrieking "Ow ow ow, we're going to die!! We've been drowned!!" Mama tried to calm her, but she refused to be comforted.

Pa was back in a few ticks, carrying two young squirrels by the scruff of their necks.  The Terrible Two, as we call them now, have been plaguing us for months now, playing every flippin' prank in the book. But the elders of the tribe don't believe us. How could two little squirrels be so naughty?

They didn't believe us again this time. Grandpa Nightfur was poppin' mad. "Ache, they're thy own leetle lads! Why don't ye spank them?" "We have no proof, my dear hare," replied the eldest chieftain.

-------------------------------------------------

I am leaving the colony. I want to go to Salamandestron. Grandpa gives me his old claymores, strapping them on my back. "Ache me lad, I would I could go with ye." Mama didn't cry, as I thought she might. She just gave me some vittles and a hug and sent me off, without a word. Pa told me to always defend the young and old and the sick. I said I would. Grandma is weeping so much, it makes me very uncomfortable. I wave goodbye and set off on my journey.

Lord Lupis saw the badger on the mountain peak. He grimaced at the silent figure and called his horde together. " Get ready. Tulstil the Toadstool looks ready to fight."

"Of all my luck, the locals!" Aarak muttered through his gag.  They had gotten his obvious daggers and wer flaunting them while the fire which was being made was finished.  "If only I could move my hands a little, I could reach my back ups..." Looking around for any way to loosen his bonds.  A dagger suddenly flew from the dark and imbeded itself in the rat coming to put him in the fire, killing him instantly.  The small band of vermin turned to see a lone hare charging towards them, grabbed their weapons and charged the hare.

"Luck of the Abbey!"Aarak exclaimed as the dagger which killed the rat was within reach of his foot, and thus freedom.  Using the dexterity that could only be rivaled by Gnoff the Mouse Theif of Legend, Aarak freed himself.  Grabbing one of his remaining daggers he charged at the rear of the force.  "It might not be the foxes, but i own them for their 'kindness'," though Aarak before the battle started.

Post Script

There seems to be some beasts attacking the horde of that wolf. Since that band had plundered many a ship, the best thing to do is to attack. The crew aren't villanous, but they are as deadly as corsairs. The added oars and wind means that we'll be there in seconds. This captain will fight for what he wants, and he wants that horde away from this beach.

Dubruck skipped around gaily, whistling a tune. He had gotten away with it again! No one ever believed those stupid rabbits. And that young one was gone. His nemesis. Always better, faster, smarter, Rakefur could beat Bru up without leaving a bruise. He quoted the raven "nevermore".

Tulstil thundered down the mountainside, his scythe facing the wolf horde. Brigadier Crumscrop watched his speed by the small window and sighed. "Get the bally ptrol down with his lordship. He's jolly well chargin' the vermin bloomin' single-pawed!" Tulstil cannoned into the wolves, his scythe flashing left and right. Lord Lupine was just out of reach. But unbeknowst to the rampant badger, a group of timber wolves were circling to the back of Tulstil, ready to pounce on him.

Sabre flying, Phillip saw the Badger Lord attacking like a madbeast.  Just like many other badger lords, he thought as a coyote fell to his blade. The hare finally reached Arrak and made small talk.
"So, fine chap, you seem to have got yourself in a jam." Phillip said, kicking a wolf into a group. "Well, at least I'm armed." Arrak said, cutting a coyote's neck. "By the way," Welterson replied,"I want my little knife back when you're done, it's part of a set of two."

The Battle of Blood Beach would become one of the many famous battles that would go down in History, mainly because of how unique the battle was. The armies of Derrik Klder and Lord Tulstil attacked the much larger army of Lord Lupis. The lives of Phillip and Arrak have come together, but what about the lives of Rakefur Longface and Dubruct the Bough?

To say the battle at the camp was simple would be an understatement, it was slaughter.  The team of Aarak and Phillip was perfect, a few scratches but nothing more.  When the remnants of the force left at the camp retreated Phillip turned to Aarak. "Mind if me dagger back, ole' chap?" said the hare.  "Sure." replied Aarak, handing the dagger that saved him to Phillip, and then turning to the pile of daggers that were his.  "Why does a fellow like you have so many daggers?" asked the hare. To answer Aarak grabbed the stack and in the space of a few moments threw the four daggers into the pole where he had been tied up, "That is why."  said the mouse.  "Hm, a curious way of fighting," responded Phillip, looking toward his home.

A sight of terror filled Phillip's face as he saw his lord run down the side of the mountain toward a hord of canines.  "That bloomin' badger, he's gonna kill himself!" Phillip exclaimed, "Say mouse..." "the name's Aarak", said Aarak. "Say Aarak, wouldyou be willing to help a old hare defend his home from vermin?", Phillip asked.  "I guess I owe you, for saving me, and I owe that wolf for tying me up and letting his men almost cook me," replied Aarak, rembering why he had come to these shores.

I laughed bitterly as I recalled my childhood. And here I was, trapped in the hold of a corsair galley. I could see the mountain from one of the many cracks in the planking, but I couldn't get to it. That pirate captain had ordered the hatches closed during a storm and must have forgotten to have them opened again in his eagerness to rid himself of those wolves on shore.

I will now turn your attention to that very fight, between the corsairs, the wolves, a giant badger, and what looked like a mouse and a strange hare, both fighting like mad beasts. I chewed my paw, trying to think of some way to get out and help. But I could think of nothing, and at last the badger went down under the rush of the pirates.  The wolf and his band were pinned down on both sides, but seemed seasoned warriors, and having a much larger band, pushed them back to the sea. The corsairs finally broke and fled back to the ship, but Kilder ordered a couple of his  bravest to hold the wolf off while the rest dragged the huge beast to the safety of their galley. The wolves did not push further, having won the battle, they turned their attention to a small group of hares charging them. These did much damage, but due to the large number of beasts Lord Lupis had, were driven back to their mountain, with only 1/3 of the number they started out with.

I heard them come aboard, the ship groaning under the immense weight of the badger lord. A spark of hope flashed through my mind. Then I heard the shouted orders, the creak of oars, and the groan of slaves, and I knew we would not be coming back.

Tune in next time: Lord Lupis

Lord Lupis snarled as he watched the ship sail away and the hares retreat. His army picked themselves up, shaking. A Northern Wolf began a howling dirge for the dead, and the others joined in. Lupis growled and ignored the keening screams and howls, turning instead to the mountain, where Tulstil stood at the summit, staring down. Lupis turned way and kicked at a nearby coyote.
"Find the Jack brothers, now! I won't those fools dead, and we need a ship."

scratched and battered the hare and mouse turned to the sight, the hare's of Salamandastron being forced to retreat and the invading army beginning to surround the mountain fortress.  "Those vermin will pay..." muttered Phillip,"... and  my troops will train till their paws fall off if they survive this."  "Don't be hard on them my friend, we are alive and hope remains," said Aarak.  "I know," sighed the hare, "its just Salamandastron has not been like this for seasons.  I even do not remember a time when this happened."  Aarak turned to the forest, and started walking.

"Where are you going?" asked Phillip, " we need to get to the mountain!"  "if you want to kill yourself trying to get there, be my guest.  I am going back to my camp to rest and figure out if I have been following the right wolf," said Aarak continuing into Mossflower wood.  "Wait for me!" shouted Phillip.

Mastjack Rack glared at Lupin from over the fire. The ferret scratched his chin and belched. His twin brothers Ropejack Mack, Steeljack Crack, and Sailjack Stack grimaced too.
"Wot do yew want?" Mack said angrily.
Lupin snarled. " I need aship. My prey has been stolen."
Stack  stuck a grimy finger in his ear. " Sorry, mate. the Salt Scourer's off 'o duty."
He choked as Lupin shook his neck with his clawed fist. "Gurk! A'ight, a'ight!"

The hare and mouse returned to a camp.  It was a small camp, with a cooking fire and camp.  "Well welcome to my humble abode." said Aarak.  "I still think we could have taken them." murmured Phillip.  "Oh, shut it yo old wind bag.  You know as well as I do that you would die trying to charge to the mountain.  Could you start the fire, I start a stew."  The pair went to their tasks and within a hour they were eating stew.

"Why were you following those foxes?" Phillip asked.  "I guess I need to tell you, you did save my life," said Aarak looking to the sky,"my family comes from a region a little farther north than the mountain, the southern edge of the Northlands.  We barely made enough to survive, but we did always fearing some warlord would come and take every thing from us.  That day happened, I was about five seasons old and out playing in the woods.  When I looked towards my home, I saw smoke rising.  When I reached the edge of the clearing where we lived I saw a fox and a small band and my house burning with my family inside.  I ran, ran as fast as I could, and ended up wandering and barely survivng the next few months.  I was about to die when a family of mice found me and took me to Redwall Abbey.  All I have now is the dagger my dad gave me earlier that day."

Aarak truned back to his food think about his family and the time he spent at the Abbey, how distant it seemed.

Derrik Sat down in his cabin with the badger lord. "Lord Tulstil, I believe we both have a common enemy. We must work together to fight the menace of Lord Lupin. So, what do you say?" Derrik stuck out his paw, hoping for his plan to work. The Badger stayed in his seat, looking at the captain angrily. "I NEVER work with vermin! Once I'm done with Lupin, I'm c-" He was cut short by Derrik's cold stare. He repeated, "We must work together to fight Lord Lupin." Derrik got closer, keeping his eyes on the Badger Lord, "We must work together. We WILL work together. And I'll make sure of that." The Badger started feeling odd, almost tingly. Derrik walked closer, never looking away or blinking, until he was almost touching the badger. "We will work together. You will help me. When I snap my fingers, you will be my Ally. Once I Snap my fingers, you will forget our little talk, go straight to the forge room, and light a fire." *snap!*

The deed was done.

I made my way aft, and peered through a crack in the timbers. There was nothing to be seen but water. And there is nothing worse than being on a ship and seeing endless water, but slowly dying of thirst. Hence I lay for 3 more days in the bottom of the galley. It was the third night, during a storm and I was seasick agai, when there was a:

And water poured in the hold like a waterfall.....All went black.....

Phillip saw the badger lord leave the ship. Something happened on that sinking ship.
Wait.... sinking? The crew jumped off and folowed the badger Lord inside. Following the group after the gate closed was a young and wet hare. Phillip went back to Arrak to tell him the news.
Title: Re: Road of Foxes

"So the ship they were on is sinking, and its not too far away," mused Aarak while he stared at the fire,  "this certainly changes things.  Lets go, that badger might be able to help me."

The two beasts wandered to the beach being wary of the canines who held the mountain to the north.  The first thing that they saw was the ship, slowly sinking to the bottom of the sea and her crew scattered along the beach, but no badger.  The crew had already seemed to have gotten it self together except for a lone beast a little farther south.  upon closer inspection it was seen as a young hare.  "That's the chap i was telling you about" said Phillip as he went to try to save the young beast.

Aarak knew that there had to be a reason for this appearance, a young hare who did not look to be among the members of the fighting hares of Salamandastron, and the crew of the ship not doing anything to help the poor beast.
"Oi!" Aarak shouted at the shipless, crew, "Why aint you beasts helping?"  In response to that a stoat who seemed to be the leade stood up, "And what be that beast's fate to us?"

"This could be interesting," thought Aarak, staring the corsair down

Derrik sat in the dirt, exasperated. He gained (forcefully) an insane badger for an ally, but lost his best ship at the same time. He just hoped the badger would forget to tell the hares that-
The gates opened up, Hares bringing in the army. Derrik never saw the three others follow him in.

Lord Tulstil stormed down the stairs to the dining hall, where he was surprised to be met by Derrik, drinking from Tulstil's best chalice, in Tulstil's seat, eating from Tulstil's platter. This enraged the badgerlord who went to the nearest hare. "What is HE doing here?" Tulstil asked. the hare meekly replied, "You said to let him in when they came." "I SAID NOTHING!" the badger roared, getting the attention of the hares and sailers. Derrik sat down calmly, sipping from the chalice. Even if the badger doesn't remember anything, he'll start listening to me soon, he thought.

((By the way, can we talk before im autoed?))

The Sea Scourer thundered against the cresting waves. Lord Lupis's forces had been swelled almost tenfold by Mastjack's followers.
"There!" A wesel shouted from the crow's nest. Lupis saw a large mass of beasts by the water's edge, mostly vermin, but was lot a couple of hares and a mouse? Lupis grinned toothily as their ship sailed closer.

Tension was sparking between the mouse and the stoat, and eased up when Aarak finally spoke.  "Alright fine don't help, but can we at least use some of your supplies?"

"What supplies?" said the stoat, and the rest of the crew laughed.  It was true, there really wasn't much, a few barrels of food and water which probablly were not going to be given up easily.  Phillip was meanwhile by the young hare and recessitaing the hare.  Suddenly the hare coughed up sea water and started to breath.

"Easy chap," said Phillip, "your going to be alright."
"Was' you name?" asked Aarak helping the hare sit up.  The hare replied weakly, "Rakefur Longface." before collapsing from exhasution.

"Let's get him back to the camp," said Aarak, Phillip somberly knodding his head inn agreement, as they carried the hare into the woods.  Not far in the distance, the Sea Scourer saw the motion but turned towards teh mass.  Lupin smiled, he would destroy the hares of Salamandastrom, soon...very soon.
