Title: Returning warlord introduction.
Post by: wolf bite on August 02, 2016, 11:39:50 AM
With the reappearance of old players we should introduce who we are to those that started after we left.

I am (lower case) "wolf bite". I started just a few months after the server came on line. I am a bit older than most because it was my son Bloodwake who asked me to join. Prior games similar to this one (same code) everyone played about the same way with even structures and armies. Probably I was the first to experiment with different playing styles and wrote the first manual on playing with strategies. In those days, surly bypassed many times by now, I had more time as Emperor than any other beast in the forest. I am happy to say that many have improved on those playing styles and even a few more have been invented. My method of approaching situations was said by "Beatles" to be "An iron fist in a velvet glove" and I was promoted to admin. I stopped playing competitively and teamed up with my buddy "Holby" to teach new players so that they would more enjoy the game. About 5 years ago I left the game.

That is me. Others that are returning introduce yourself. :)

My name is Durza (yes I took that from Eragon).  I am not one of the older players, having joined about 5 or so years ago.  During this time I have met and chatted with many different players who have been great pals.  This will be my first active game in about 3 years.  I however have been somewhat active on the forums, mostly ghosting with the occasional comment in Spa.

Like wolf bite, I've been here since the beginning, more or less. I was introduced to the game via a former admin, (Shorestar, if any of you oldbies know her) at Terrouge, which used to be the sister site to RWL. My original account was "The Hounds of Ulster", and that's easily my most well known account name, warlord number was either 13 or 23, I can't remember anymore. I played for a little bit, then schoolwork and a social life caused me to drift away. I came back my freshman year of college, that would have been 2003, so 3rd era of RWL, and I haven't really left since, except for short stints here and there. For most of my time at RWL, I've tended to team up with either Shadow or Holby, or usually both. At this point, between Shadow, Holby, and myself, we've probably been responsible for more server takeovers and emperors created than pretty much anyone else in the history of RWL. I haven't been playing actively of late, but I still check in on the forums.

I feel like most players already know who I am, but I haven't been around in a while.

Haha, yeah, Ponytars were fun. Most of my major memories involve the themed clans, like ROME, or the Star Wars clan. More recently, League of the Scarlet Pimpernel, and the rebirth of Ereptor's TBV clan were fun too. There was also Fair Maiden, which actually was kinda boring after awhile, because we were too dominant, but the personalities in it were fun. Really, that's what I have the best memories of, late night MSN and TeamSpeak chats.

Here since first round, windhounds (#116)
Actually found it by Googling (Dogpile?) "Redwall game"

Mod since 2005
Admin since 2010
Have done mild feature adds and maintenance coding.

By far my favorite feature I worked on is the no-longer-in-use Turbo bots Shadow helped me with.  afaik they're the only promi-bots ever created, and were somewhat self sufficient.

Achieved Emp in Reg with Nero, who may have been Reg's first emp who's majority networth (86.08%) was comprised of food (7.6 bil).
Rose up after the clan Rome crumbed, sustained by bribing people with aid packets, iirc it was Neo who sacked me and brought an end to that..  but I got the full 10 days or whatevs.

And gawd, the MSN chats....  and some coordinated clan runs that took hours.
Funtimes.

Post by: Krowdon on August 03, 2016, 09:07:21 AM
Hi!! I'm Krowdon!!

I joined RWL in late 2008, and joined the forums in 2009. I've always been Krowdon, and I always play fox. I'm not great at the game but I've learned a few things over the years so I can hold my own. I love the game but what I really love is the community here. I've made some great friends who I value a lot, and this site has the best staff I have ever seen on a smaller site like this.

Some of my fave RWL memories I guess are being in my clan, Empire of the Phoenix, and that summer Ungatt, Briar, Night Wolf, and I started the Redwall Spamlords. We got the ten second posting rule changed down to five or something lol.

Look forward to playing with you all!

I'm Shadow! I was around since the first (?) era, where my number was #793. My name is inspired by a minor character in the first Redwall book. I've spent far, far too much time on these forums, and even if the site disappeared today, it will almost certainly be the site I spent more time at than any other by the time I die.

Over many years I went from newbie, to frequent server takeovers, to moderator, and finally to admin and redwall developer. I'm largely responsible for RWL3.0. I have to concur with windy about the bots being my favorite feature - during the development process they were bloodthirsty killing machines that on several occasions depopulated entire servers before they could be stopped. We had to hobble them a bit for general use.

I've teamed up with just about everyone over the years. By far my favorite server takeover was with League, where we have 7 roughly equal "emperors", giving the server a fighting chance while also holding it for quite a while. I'm also one of the team members responsible for the most dominant emperor of all time, as far as I know: Holby's takover was so comprehensive we eventually had to release the server ourselves since there was no change for anyone to catch up.

Redwall was more or less my first experience on the internet, and certainly my first experience interacting with people online. Lots of fond memories.

Post by: Uiblis on August 03, 2016, 12:07:27 PM
My tag is Uiblis, I've been around since 2008 but didn't make a forum account til far later. I'm a lot younger than many of the true veterans like shadow, volky, windy, etc. Started when I was 13 or 14, currently 20, so RWL has honestly been a pretty big part of my life.

Like everyone else, I started out as a newbie but later became one of the more formidable leaderers on either server.
Suppose my claim to fame is being the first "official" emperor of the new era in reg after that feature was coded in. Post food networth nerf too hehe

Started going inactive a little bit after 3.0 dropped and reg started to stagnate after sevz and co gave up on it. Super excited to get back into the swing of things. The days where I would schedule runs at like 3 in the morning so I would optimize turn use and not waste any past the cap...feels so long ago.

Special shoutouts to Shadow for answering my questions and giving me code/math for various game mechanics, as well as sharptooth for being a fantastic teammate in our many adventures in various turbo rounds.

Post by: Firetooth on August 05, 2016, 07:10:32 PM
I'm Firetooth, younger brother of sharptoo(t)h. We're both brits who have played with all sorts for almost a decade, and I've also played across a couple of other promis - mostly Valhalla, Imperium (think that was the name?) and F&F. Me and my brother used to have a clan with another Brit (Pippin) called The Armada, and we also had a clan on Agency with Shadow, Volkov and Uibilis for a while on reg - we'd fight Sevz & Co and make Volk sort-of emp when we had the time. I used to run with Krowdon and a bunch of others in the Phoenix Clan in reg, worked with Sevz a bit when I was learning the ropes of new turbo, then worked with Shadow, Volk and Sharp to break Sevz and Snare's monopoly on new turbo rounds.

I've been involved with various other bits and pieces, most of which I can only vaguely remember...think I held the funds for Fair Maiden in the run-up to Holby being super-emp.

I've probably argued and feuded with most people on this site at some point, though definitely less so as I've aged...I can have a short temper and didn't use to be a very good loser (please don't read my old posts). But despite the tooth tag, I don't bite.

Like lots of people here, RWL was my first experience interacting with people across the world via the Internet, long before the smart phone age. I began playing RWL in my formative years, and as well as providing competitive fun, the community here really rubbed off on me. Even when I didn't play much or have much time, I'd always pop into the madness over in Spa 101 to hang with the guys there (Krowdog, Unga, Briar, Night Wolf, Durza and many more). Plus, the debates (some of which were fairly heated) in UmD over the years probably helped shape the person I am haha. So I am immensely grateful that I discovered this site as a nerdy pre-teen all those years back, and very nostalgic to be returning for this event. :)

Post by: Juska on August 07, 2016, 12:02:42 PM
Hello, I'm Juska. As a kid I loved the Redwall series and about thirteen years ago I found this site, taking my name from the Redwall book I was reading at the time. I think the Juska are a clan in Taggerung, but it's been a while since I've read any of the books. I started when Wolf Bite was emperor and his clan (Raiders or something?) dominated the top 10, one of the real old-timers can correct my memory and figure out the era. From RWL I found QM Promisance (RIP) where I played under the name Perseus, but I always enjoyed the community and especially the role play focus here at RWL. I brought the indy to strategy to RWL and have long lobbied to nerf the leadering and food hoarding strategies, albeit unsuccessfully. I've had some great times here in the past, although the Commanders server sticks out in my mind as particularly fun. It's the game interaction and role-playing that makes this game so much fun, so I encourage anyone playing to not just run turns every three days, but to send in-game messages, craft a bit of a story about your warlord, and post in the forums. Glad to have a reason to come back and play a round, good luck everyone.

Surprised I still have an account, but the email/password combo I used to use a decade ago works so...

I'm Beatles, probably started playing even earlier than anyone who's posted so far, idk maybe except Volkov? I was either right before or right after Hounds of Ulster. You guys should bring Nevadacow back, he was #2 on the original server, after Boze. Oh yes, server takeovers were fun, the most fun clan takeover that I can remember was Rome. But my favorite was when a group of us took down and killed the top three players in two nights of frantic planning in AIM chatrooms on Medieval Empires, run by Turlock. That was Devari, Volkov, windy, Freen, Turlock, Jacob, Urran Voh, Nuclear Raunch, Neo I think?

Made many friends over the years, many that I still stay in touch with. Ran Frost and Flame for a long time. Stopped playing a long long time ago - my new passion is quidditch! - and I doubt if I'll play this time but thought I'd say hi! Ping me if Holby unretires for this one too.

Well, I started quite some time ago as well...I believe it was pretty close to the beginning but I cannot remember when exactly.  Its been quite some time since I've been on the forums or played the game.  Having played mostly in high school, as I grew older other things took priority but I always had terrific memories of RWL.  Befriended several folks while playing the game and I've met a couple in person as well.  I met The Lady Shael sometime ago when we were both in High School...Last year I finally met Abby the Rat and Lauren the Badger.  Usually, I team up or with with Bloodwake, and had created the Guardians of the Blade clan.  I'm also a Global Moderator of the Forums.

Hope to see many more come back  :D

ive been juska's #1 fan since a long time ago.

Is Holby around?

e: I guess people are taking it seriously. Forum join date is 2004 but I know I was playing the game a bit before that. Holby brought me here. I was never very good at the game so my niche became diplo, espionage, and an uncanny knack for finding Windy's account and taking all of his food no matter what he named himself or where he was on the ladder.

Participated in a number of the big takedowns, though usually from the shadows. Hence the two uncertain mentions of me in this thread so far.

I've been frenemies with Juska since day 1 and to date he is the only one I was never able to successfully take down with my playstyle.

I probably won't be playing the game because using my name would compromise my gimmick but this is a nice idea nevertheless.

In the spirit of the thread, TL;DR is I started this thing at #60, Kilk's Marauders on the original game in like 2002 or whatever. Haven't played the game seriously in a number of years and to be honest I've always enjoyed the political aspect the most and making coalitions/stories to play out.

I also like to drink beer and post posts.

Email from RWl! Talk about a blast from the past...

Hi all =) Been years since I've been on here. Haven't got time to play really, but thought I'd pop my head in and say hi. Don't think I ever played the game that much anyway, think I mostly just hung out in the spa room.

Nice seeing some names I recognise. Anyone remember me? Ashy's friend, introduced by her somewhat reluctantly to RWL (has she been about recently?).

So wonderful to see all the names from the past. Would like to hug each one of you individually.

Even if you don't want to play or be competitive, Please sign in to the RtR site and make an account so we have all the REAL names listed as playing the game. (Group picture!) Time may be a problem for some to play like the old days, But everyone can log in about every 4 days to scout or something. The game is slow speed and only 3 months long so not too hard for anyone. After 14 years ... this may be the last big get together of all of us. Bring others you know to the reunion and make sure you are in it.

Hey all!

I'm Calantorntain.  Former ROC addict.  Currently the Most Prominent Citizen in the Vulpine Imperium.  Former owner of the Redwall Printups and Downloads geocities website.  Only ever did moderate amounts of RP.  Spent most of my time at Starfire's Redwall Abbey, Terrouge, The VI, RWL, and reading the impressive number of Redwall e-zines that existed.

Since I'm not much of a gamer, I thought that "happy pony raising" was a legit style of gameplay that existed outside of RWL.  It is not.

I've completely forgotten how to play, but I look forward to playing the Return to Redwall game!

Hi, I'm Briar. I started playing in 2008 just as I was finishing High School and found the game via Wikipedia when I was looking up something on one of the Redwall books.

I've pretty much always played leader strat. My most memorable alliances have been with Sevz.

I loved the late night chat sessions and pretty sure I convinced some of you one night that my messenger had a filter so I couldn't see swear words :P

My all time favorite period has been surrounding Redwall:Spamlords. Filling all of your "unread posts" boxes with Spa Room posts was a glorious time.

I'm currently emping in Reg, though that's just because Hounds is on vacation.

I stopped playing several times for several reasons but one of the main ones was during the 3.0 transition. Can't wait for RtR to start up.

My hobbies include making fun of Volkov and not really understanding any posts in the Spa Room.

Reminder:

We are all playing RtR under our original or best known name. If you signed up under a different name, please contact windy either PM on forum or his game admin account. All unknown names will be verified via IP prior to the shotgun start of the game.

Also know that no one can be killed. Attacks stop at 1,000 land. This is not a kill fest.
Aid has been reduced. Enough aid can be sent to help an ally but not enough to pass goods around, thus each player is mostly playing on their own.

Please make sure everyone has an account and plays, even if only to scout your turns away or hang around. Photo opportunity!

Just to confirm clans will be allowed, but aid will be limited to the "normal" unclanned amounts? Like 5 per 24 hours or something right?
Title: Re: Returning warlord introduction.
Post by: wolf bite on August 17, 2016, 09:26:37 PM
There will be clans. Part of the reason for the no land can be taken after 1,000 land is so people will not worry about being killed just for being in a clan. Thus more people will be in clans. Aid will be lowered a % per shipment lower than normal. (Being worked on and determined by windy). This way net worth and armies can not be easily passed around keeping many players from ganging up on others.

As far as I know we will simply make aid to clan members cost aid credits as per normal. No change to % you can aid unless windy coded a thing that I'm not aware of.

I'm not sure which side of the issue this is on. You want no aid at all?

When I initially read the limited aid thing I was expecting it to be like bare minimum, not enough to change anything minimum. But just using the aid credits is not much different than normal where you can chain the resources from point to point. Some is lost, sure, but the bulk of it still ends up in one place.

Not certain that most people will build up a network strong enough to spam aid like you think. It looks like it'll be fine as is. And it's a slow game and a short round. I dislike the 1000 land and no kills thing, it favors leader players. Fox will be a pretty fantastic race if they can net down and hide long enough. Might see an independent player win in this fashion.

Remember Rome?

If 4 or 5 good players pass around their armies and resources, even several sets of good players fighting against them will have no chance. Becomes little fun for most of the players. Just saying ...

Rome had unlimited aid since they were clanned, no?

It's a bit of a double edged sword. Yes, aid can let a team of people pull ahead. But without aid, a team of people would have an almost impossible task to take down someone who managed to get reasonably far ahead on their own.

Not sure if I'll be joining everyone, as it starts tomorrow, and frankly I have no clue how this game works any more and my time is limited. Ah, memory... I don't really go on the Internet that much any more because it's all terrible list articles & think pieces now but this was always one of my favoured websites

I joined in 2008 after my brother (Firetooth) convinced me to play, I can't believe that was really 8 years ago now ...

I signed up as Sharptooh because someone had already signed up as Sharptooth (I don't think they ever even did much) but I've switched to the correct spelling when playing in game.

I was pretty active until a couple of years ago, things just get in the way really. Coincidentally I now work as a web developer (PHP/HTML/JavaScript/CSS/Server Admin) which I have to at least partly thank RWL for, it helped encourage my initial interest in programming and the like.

Nice to see so many familiar faces around, I'll have to read through all the messages properly when I get the chance.

Also (partly because I'm not sure who best to message now, and partly because I'm being lazy) can someone please un-disable me on RTR please? Me and Firetooth both signed up from the same IP so it's locked me out as usual!

Let's see... I've always been Rough Raiders... started playing back in (March 2003 according to my account) I think, disappeared for a long time (Cuz lyfe), came back in 2011 for a short time, then graduated college and more life/adulting happened.... BUT NOW I'M BACK!

How do I play again? Join a clan/be a spy or goad someone on the fourms into attacking me all while being an angsty teenager? Cause that's all I remember... also currently trying to get yellow eyes to come back...

Saw him sign on last night after I sent him a text. Mission accomplished.

No harm in giving it a chance. I played back in the first/second round ever, and never since then. 2003? That was a while ago. So is the game now started? When I click "enter RtR" it doesn't take me anywhere, I just stay on the login screen. =( ..I don't wanna miss my first "run"! (I'm hopeless with this internet stuff; probably just doing something wrong) Sigh...

Hey Bogfoot, can you try logging in with another browser / device, just to see?

I started turns last night, it'll be a day or two before you'd have enough for a full run so no worries.
I'll take a look this evening

Both myself and Yellow Eyes have the same issue. Click "Enter RTR" and nothing happens. I'm using Chrome V 52.0.2743.116, and also tried it with IE 11 at work with the same result.

Yup, yup. Same issue on every browser. Click the enter RtR link and it seems to just refresh the same page, rather than log me in or take me anywhere. Perhaps returning to Redwall just wasn't meant to be...  :P

Fixed!  I'm a derp.
Sorry guys, missed a config variable when setting up the new server.

Yellow Eyes I'm 90% sure I reset your password to whatever it was, if not let me know
