Reg Discussion / Regular Awards
April 01, 2018, 04:51:32 PM
You guys know the deal, here are the turbo awards for the round just concluded. Fill your own nominations!

Best player: Difficult in a round full of vets. Windy for how skillfully he dodged conflict and amassed huge amounts of net
Worst player: Most people were pretty competent, so going to leave blank
Best indy: depends how you measure. I thought all of RLA's Indies were more effective at net production than team Sevz, but that Caesar and HPR were more effective at net destruction. Sharp was pretty consistently effective though
Worst indy: Neverdull didn't seem to do much
Best leader: Windy or Sevz
Worst leader: Unsure of this one again
Best newcomer: Graceclaw came a long way from the start of the round, shout out to hin
Most disappointing: HPR for never logging off/the clan hopping
Best clan: RLA
Best solo player: Windy
Most surprising: that vaca abuse was finally properly fixed

General Discussion / Permanent Classic Server
December 02, 2016, 10:02:33 AM
Simple question. My justifications are that it would be a more active server, as we have seen from RtR. I don't think people who wanna come back and relive the nostalgia of the old days get the same buzz off of 3.0, and there's not the numbers of new people coming in anymore to sustain 3.0 as anything other than a playpen really. RtR shows we can have a reasonable active and competitive turbo-esque server, so I think we should keep running it.

Return to Redwall / RtR Awards
December 01, 2016, 05:36:42 AM
RtR awards. Same format as turbo, but I've got rid of some of the "worst" awards as they're kind of mean

Best player: feel it was one for the solo players. Blood awake produced like a boss
Worst player: I feel everybody was good this time, so gonna leave this one blank
Best leader: I think I did a pretty good job pumping food out al round. Sevz, Manus and Blood Wake also produced lots
Best Indy: Shadow. Juska was also good when he was around
Best farmer: Whoever foooooood was...had like 30bil food still marketed, and showed up late
Best casher: didn't see any
Best solo player: blood wake, but TS also did a grand job all round
Best clan: Woof, Volk ran a tight ship over there and got the win for our clan
Worst clan: By default, Honour. Did a good job breaking the badger alongside woof, but awful at diplomacy and end-of-round planning
Most improved: TS and Varg, you were way better than I remember haha
Biggest surprise: zombie alpha
Biggest disappointment: so basically the reason I left woof earlier in the round was because a bunch of oldbies were gonna come back and make a new clan, and they told volk they'd destroy all our net and stop anyone breaking the badger unless woof ditched me. I didn't feel that was in the spirit of the round, or site, at all.

Return to Redwall / The Great Woof Rebellion
September 10, 2016, 07:31:39 AM
Firetooth the Cat was slumped on his measly wooden throne, head in paws and fur ruffled. Once more, the goodbeasts in his realm had been conscripted by the tyrant, General Volkov, under the pretence of collective responsibility. Once more, the rich granaries that his innovations - irrigation, crop rotation, and of course GMOs (hated by Volkov's senior advisor, Food Babe)- had filled were being drained dry by the greedy beasts, roaming beasts from Volkov's demense, who came and went into Firetooth's lands as they pleased, eating and drinking their fill.

"Oh yes, being in a clan is great...when you're the leader" Fireooth hissed, to nobody in particular. He grabbed a goblet from his throne's arm and raised it to his lips, only to realise it was empty. Furiously, Firetooth lobbed the empty goblet at a nearby Wolf, snoozing miserably on the floor. It missed, but hit the floor with enough force to raise the Wolf from his slumber.

"Sharptooth!" Firetooth snarled. "Where is my wine? I made orders for the vineyards to be harvested this morn!"

The Wolf looked wearily at the noble and good Wildcat, then slumped his head back onto the floor and tiredly replied "my liege, I am afraid Volkov's men requisitioned it."

"What?!" Firetooth snarled, leaping to his feet. "That fiend! Oh, we have given so much to this Woof clan of his, but what we have we received back in return? Empty vineyards, empty granaries, and conscripted troops!" Under his breath, Firetooth muttered "I never want to turn share troops on."

Sharptooth remained silent, then let out a slow snore and continued his slumber. Firetooth's nostrils flared as he prepared to awake his sleeping compadre - but before he got the chance, he was interrupted by the slamming sound of the great doors of the throne room being flung open.

"My liege!" panted an exhausted-looking weasel. "I bring news from the Briarlands!"

"Oh?!" Firetooth exclaimed, his dour expressing suddenly lightening a little bit. "What is it? Has our proposal been accepted? Has the noble warlord Briar seen sense?!"

The weasel made to speak, but failed to produce anything intelligble other than panting sounds. "Speak, fool!" Firetooth snarled, striding up to the poor beast and grabbing him by his throat. "What is the news!"

The emissary tried to speak, but unfortunately could not as his throat was completely enveloped by Firetooth's mighty paw. Frustrated, Firetooth ripped the poor weasel's head off and tossed it aside.

"Idiot!" he snarled, kicking away his head. "How can he-" Firetooth stopped his predictably insane tirade as he noticed the weasel had a note clenched in his fist. Dropping to all fours, Firetooth pricked the note with his claw, raised it before his face and opened it, his face contorting into a devilish grin as he each letter passed under the gaze of his keen eyes.

The Most Exalted and Noble Firetooth, Greatest of all Beasts and Warlord Supreme,

After careful consideration, we have decided to support your noble scheme to depose the most despicable and loathed Volkov. Find attached $1 billion in cash dollars, towards this most noble end.

Do not disappoint the people of the Briarlands - we expect you to make good on this investment.

Regards,

Lady Briar of the Briarlands

7.4 hours ago    Briar (#8) has sent you 7,492 Skiffs carrying...    $1,000,000,000

The grin widened until it could widen no further, then Firetooth raised his head back and let out an appropriately evil laugh. After an appropriate amount of cackling, however, he realised he actually had no diplomatic power in Woof.

"Bother!" Firetooth grumbled. He picked up the decapitated head of the poor weasel, and addressed it directly. "I suppose you must make haste to the Briarlands and make known that I have erred in my assessment of...stuff" he sighed. "Also, tell her that the $1 billion in cash dollars is strictly non-refundable. Make haste, boy!" he snarled, tossing the head out of the throne room and watching as it rolled down the steps, on an important diplomatic errand.

Firetooth dejectedly turned and dragged his feet back to his throne. As he did, he swore he could hear the sleeping Sharptooth murmur "idiot."

Ok, maybe this wasn't my most brilliant scheme, Firetooth mused. But we have acquired $1 billion in cash dollars, that shall aid our every effort to secretly depose the tyrant Volkov. Until that day, I suppose we must quietly endure these injustices...

Turbo Discussion / Turbo Awards
June 29, 2013, 03:12:16 AM
Right, I haven't done one of these for a while. I didn't do one two rounds back because it was so skewed, but this round was a lot more fair. I don't even think I've done a 3.0 awards thread, so it took me a bit to figure out the categories.

Best player: Taek did very well, despite messing up big at the end.
Worst player: Sevz, for noob killing and failing to co-ordinate his clan
Best indier: Pippin was making tons. Drone Farmer was also pretty good
Worst indier: Me at the start of the round was a wildcat :P
Best farmer/casher: Snare was making lots of cash, as was shoot when active.
Worst farmer/casher: Weren't enough to judge
Best newcomer: Chirp (nateac, I think?) was running a food reselling strategy. Got him enough to get a non land-fat finish. Rudder was also technically a newb, so he did pretty great.
Best team player: The White Knight, for making lots of troops and staying self-sufficent, despite getting killed thrice and having a limited amount of time to play
Best solo player: Shoot, or maybe Šnowy Fír (IDK who that was)
Most annoying: Sevz. Or maybe Snare for his hilarious "poor noobie" messages at the start. How did that work out?
Best clan:  LC! IBM also did pretty good, but aren't really big enough to qualify :P
Worst clan: Snowy Fir.
Biggest surprise: Taek leaving such poor leader defenses at the end
Biggest disappointment: Team sevz unable to do anything other then kill
Biggest talker: Snare
Best hair doo: Me
Worst hair doo: Me

Strategy / 3.0 game guide
June 19, 2013, 05:03:44 PM
I know this is a bit out of the blue, but 3.0 has been out a while now. Is it even still in beta? Either way, I think work should start on a game guide, because a lot of players are still confused about how exactly everything works. Even though I've played a few 3.0 rounds now, I still feel there is a lot of information I can't easily find that could help optimise my runs. Returning players new to 3.0 have also found it more difficult to adapt due to the lack of a game guide.

I think it'd also be good to help a lot of the newbs we have at the moment learn how to play. There are a few that have played this and last round, but still haven't really progressed.

I know things are subject to change, but still. Better to have something in place that can be changed than nothing at all. I'm sure people will be happy to help contribute as well.

Development / Shields
June 07, 2013, 01:09:38 PM
I have two suggestions to change how shields work. One is minor, one is major.

The first is pretty simple. In reg, it takes days between runs, whereas in turbo most people wait a day between runs. This should be reflected in how long shields last in reg, especially given you have 100 less turns in reg so don't want to be wasting a shedload of turns raising shields. The first cast of shields in reg should raise shields for 24-48 hours.

The second suggestion is that the power of shields should be lowered. I think they discourage takedowns through there sheer power. It is usually impractical to do takedowns on somebody who raises their shields until they gather a lot of net, which I personally think is annoying. Particularly for solo players, as the damage they can do in a takedown is already limited. I'm not sure what the best way to balance shields is, but I would like to see their power reduced a little bit.

Seems we're missing a thread! Doesn't just have to be music, if you're listening to a podcast or something feel free to post that as well. Let's get some discussion going.

Daft punk

Tbh, I only really liked Discovery and the Tron: Legacy soundtrack before, but this new Daft Punk album is pretty great, at least most of the time. I'm usually not that big on electric stuff as a whole (but Justice are good).

Post! There are tax cuts for any who post here!

Ok, today I was thinking of how we used to have an RWL facebook page, as well as a twitter account. INeither of these have been used recently, didn't Blood Wake used to run the facebook thing? Either way, I think it would be cool if we started using these things again. You'd be surprised how many people are friends with the RWL facebook account, a pretty impressive 301. Posting on that page might bring back some people, and could potentially connect with some of the newer members here.

I'm not talking about a ton of tweets or anything, but perhaps a few posts every month on big events.

Also, in terms of advertising generally, I think it might be an idea to post adverts for this page on either sites. Not necessarily other prom sites, but perhaps some of the many Redwall sites. Could we encourage any of the members of the sites who are more affiliated with those sites already (Krowdon :P ) to try and give RWL a good word?

I guess you could appoint somebody in charge of advertising the game, I've seen other sites similar to this in terms of size and function (though not promi sites) do so and it benefited them.

Spa Room 101 / Rakefur in a redwall book?
April 27, 2013, 06:32:22 AM
QuoteThe Rogue Crew is the 22nd novel in the Redwall series, published on May 3, 2011. It is the only Brian Jacques work to be published posthumously. The book is believed to feature a character named by a Redwall fan.

Development / Hall of fame+records
August 06, 2012, 08:11:46 AM
This is more of a forum idea, not an ingame idea, so I'm not sure how possible it is, but now we have global accounts, it could be an idea to have a hall of fame where each winner of a round is highlighted or something. There could also be records of every finish you have, similar to valhall. Here's what I mean (image because you need an account to see records):

There could be issues with wanting to keep your identity secret, though, so there could be an option to set your records to hidden or something. It's just a flavour idea, and I don't know how easy it would be, but there it is.
