General Discussion / Re: A Puzzle
March 05, 2013, 09:04:14 PM
The prof posted this hint:

"certainly seems to be two distinct blocks of text there. I wonder what that could imply."

Also, is it possible that the top is geographical coordinates?

General Discussion / A Puzzle
March 04, 2013, 04:11:14 PM
Hey so I can get some extra points by solving this puzzle. It probably has something to do with alternate reality games (not sure if you know what those are). I suck at puzzles though, so if anyone of you folks wanna take a crack at it, here's the image:

OH, the prof posted it to his blog too, and he leaves even more clues in the comments section: http://www.3812.graeworks.net/2013/03/04/what-i-found-in-a-defunct-email-account-with-the-subject-help/

*shrug* it took a special kinda person to appreciate RWL back in the day... Prolly still does. I'd like to think the awesomeness is more apparent now then it was. But who knows.

If I send up not doing camp this summer (looks like a 50/50 chance at) then I'll do some design work at the end of April or June or something. You folks should make a lost of what you'd like to see done.

Also, in case anyone looked at the article before I fixed it up a bit, I made a point of saying that RWL is actually quite awesome at the bottom. Feel free to keep posting in the comments on the blog or give me 5 stars or something, lol.

RWL! I love you. I just never get to see you anymore. I'm a busy guy - work, school, family... *sigh*

Anyway. I'm taking this really awesome Digital History class, which is all about games. This week I had to do a blog entry, and the prof gets /really/ impressed with the blog entries that get a lot of hits. PLEASE GO READ THE POST I MADE ABOUT RWL: http://goo.gl/efXYK

And post on the blog if you like (positive stuff, please!) Feel free to talk about whether you think RWL has been educational for you.

OK, let me sift through that wad of steaming sevscaca.

First off, activity hasn't dropped. I have google analytics, I'm watching game traffic.

second, there is an unlimited opportunity for input into the game development on RWL. Almost everyone (and I believe we even voted on this) is happy about the game changes. I've told you before that you will be gagged for clogging up the turbo forum with complaints about game development that belong in the development forum - that's called spamming.

Are you insulting me by calling me a cross dresser??

Gotta love your style Sevah, you preach from one end and play from the other.

Development / Re: Race Spells
May 09, 2012, 02:28:24 PM
Was just thinking it would be cool if race spells cost 10 turns, and became available once a day. Here was the spells I thought of:

Skeletal Defense: Creates a defensive army, that is as powerful as 30% of your troops + towers, but it does not stack on TOP of your current defense. The skeletal army does not cost upkeep, does not show up as NW, and only works as defense. The spell lasts for 60 minutes.

This spell would be a good way to help stop online attacks while you run. It also couldn't be used simply to stop anyone who attacks you, because it doesn't stack on top of your current defenses, so it's only good because you can cast it at the start of your run, then drop your defenses and run. It would become a very costly spell to any emperor who has a huge army, because it costs 10 turns to cast.

Phantom Networth: Allows a user to increase the NW displayed by up to 50% of thier current networth for 24 hours.

Sometimes a boost to your NW can really mess with people's heads.

Cloak Networth: Allows a user to decrease the NW displayed by up to 50% of thier current networth for 24 hours.

If you want handy things to show up in your sidebar, go check out the new "Handy Stuff" option in your preferences section of the Manage Army page.

But if you find yourself stuff, you'll bite the bullet and pay whatever you have to for the food you need to finish your run.

Bugs / Re: display troubles
May 02, 2012, 03:41:25 PM
IE is 21%, only 29% of that is IE8, and 59% of those people are those people are new visitors. So of the folks on RWL only 2.49% are using IE8. In all of april there were only 5 unique visits where a returning visitor was using IE8. Quite likely those 5 visits were the same person, logging in at school or someplace where they hadn't accepted the update. IE8 now pushes the update to IE9 (i believe) so most people who aren't scared to click "accept" on an update, have updated.

The race tablet was pretty much the only part of the game guide that was accurate. I've attached it to the bottom of your Manage Army page on turbo. Enjoy.

Logging on through the admin account doesn't give us any unfair advantage. I always did when I had one, there are important messages and stuff that need to be handled on a regular basis. There ism't an unfair advantage, unless we use specific admin functions (which are on specific pages, which we don't access if we are actively playing the game).

An unfortunate reality to this game is that Admins can do whatever they want. If we wanted to we could just go into the database and change absolutely any detail of the game. We don't do this. We are here because we love this game. We wouldn't work so hard, for no money, and relatively no praise, only to ruin the game by cheating.
