Role-Play / Super Cool RP Title
June 19, 2023, 08:17:30 PM
Three Years Ago

Sanglier stood on the forward deck of his ship Liana's Claw, leaned against the railing, and took a deep breath of sea air, closing his eyes as he placed one hooved hand over his heart.

"Trinity guide me," he whispered to himself in prayer, voice trembling. "As we enter this new world. Give me the strength to guide this land into your light, that these creatures here--"

"S-sir?" A gaunt rat nervously interrupted. Sanglier took a deep breath to calm himself before gripping the railing of the ship before him, his fur bristling ever so slightly.

    "Mate Hookfang, what is it?"

"We're close to land, sir. You can see the lights. The other ships are anchoring here to await further orders,  and we shall sail on to Port Eastbank and dock there. B-but Sir, a lot of the soldiers are a bit worried. The creatures of Southsward have been our trade partners for many, many seasons. Don't you th-"

There was a loud crack as Sanglier whipped around and backhanded the rat across his jaw, sending him stumbling backwards, where he collapsed upon the ground. Hookfangs eyes were wide as he pressed a paw to his now fractured and bleeding jaw, where the boars hoof had sliced into the skin where he made contact. Strolling over, the boar placed his foothoof on the rat's chest, and pressed down on him.

"If the soldiers have a problem with our mission, I will send them to the Gods themselves and they can tell them their doubts. Saint Liana herself told me we are to have Southsward, and Trinity willing, all of Mossflower for ourselves. Well, in the name of our King, of course."

He lifted his weight off of Hookfang, who scrambled to his feet, wheezing as his breath returned.

"Tell my soldiers to ready themselves, we dock at sunrise."

----------

Port Eastbank was built along an interconnected group of small islands along the Southsward shoreline, all connected by a series of bridges, with one large bridge that lead onto the mainland, turning into Galedeep Road, named after one of the heroes that defeated the Foxwolf, which connected the Port to Castle Floret and the rest of Southsward. While many creatures came and went, the Port itself was mainly inhabited by otters of various Holts that had united.

One such otter was Harbormaster Cyrus, who on this morning stood with his son, Dune, as they watched Liana's Claw pull into dock. Tapping a claw impatiently on his ledger, Cyrus watched the dockworkers moor the massive ship and set up the gangway.

"Ain't expectin' a ship today from Avignon." Cyrus huffed, flipping through his ledger again. "Unless I missed somethin' but we ain't expecting anything for another month at least."

"We'll have to see what they want then," Dune said, gently placing a paw on his fathers shoulder. "Come, the gangway is secure, let's meet their Captain at the bottom."

-------

The last dockworker scrambled out of the way as a giant of a boar in chainmail swept past them and down the gangway. He was followed closely by a ferret in bright red robes, and the ships Captain.

Harbormaster Cyrus stood squarely at the end of the dock, paws crossed over his chest. The rest of the beasts on the dock had backed away, and were anxiously eying their harbormaster as he strode up and planted himself in front of the boar.

"Now just ye wait a minute there! Ain't got a ship from Avignon docking today, what's the meaning of th--" Sanglier's spear cut the otter short as it was thrust into his gut, the wings at the base of the spearhead stopping it from digging any further into the otters stomach. Gripping the haft, Sanglier pushed Cyrus off the edge of the dock, ripping his spear from the otter as he fell into the sea. With a cry of anguish, Dune ran towards the docks edge, but froze as the bloodied spearhead was pointed at him.

Sanglier gently wiped both sides of the spearhead off on Dune's cheek as the otter stood there and trembled. "I didnt think I'd have to dirty my spear so early. What's your name, Otter?"

"D-d-dune. Dune is my name."

"Well Dune, hopefully your manners are better than your former friends. I've had a long journey, you see. We all have," he said, gesturing to the ship, where at least two score archers had lined themselves up along the railing of the top deck of the ship, bows in paws. "So I think I'm going to have my soldiers disembark, and you're going to take us to whoever runs this beautiful port."

Present Day

Looking out from the window of his tower in Castle Floret, Sanglier observed the bustling city below him. It had been three years since he and his army had landed in Southsward's Port Eastbank and swept across the country, easily crushing any resistance that had gotten in their way. The beasts here were spread out in small communities, they hadn't stood a chance against the heavily armed invaders.

Castle Floret had proved to be the most difficult to take, high up on a cliff and surrounded by moats. There was nothing a battering ram and a few dozen determined soldiers couldn't do though, and Sanglier had quickly established himself as Governor of Southsward once he'd slaughtered the royal family.

A knock at the door drew Sanglier's thoughts away from the city below, and he growled as he strode over to the door. Opening it, he looked down to find Cardinal Alban standing there. The Cardinal was an elderly ferret, his red robes distinguished him as an upper member of the Clergy, and he'd come with Sanglier to not only help establish the Church in this new land, but to be a guiding hand in how the kingdom was to be ruled. He was the one beast in the Castle Sanglier held in higher regard than himself, and as soon as he realized who it was, the boars irritation was quick to dissipate.

"Cardinal, please, come in," he said, stepping aside and holding the door open. Cardinal Alban bowed, and slowly made his way into Sanglier's quarters, taking a seat in the plush armchair by the fire. He gestured to the seat next to him, and Sanglier turned it around so he could sit across from the Cardinal.

"My son," the ferret began, folding his paws in his lap. "There's no doubt that we've made great strides in ridding this land of heathens, and bringing a new age of Enlightenment to the beasts here. However, our troops do report some trouble to the East."

"There's no trouble my army cannot handle, Cardinal."

"That may be so, but the fact is that there are still creatures who believe that they were better off without us. Why don't you send a patrol out, see what the fuss is."

Standing up, Sanglier gave a deep bow to the Cardinal. "It shall be done. Thank you Cardinal, and Trinity bless."

"Trinity bless you too, and Saint Liana watch your back."

Part 1: Out of Vermin City

I sat in the windowsill of my 4th story office, smoking a cigarette and staring out across the skyline of Vermin City. What was once a filthy rathole of a city is now a shining metropolis, ever since my partner and I cleaned up the city.

I shot a glance over at my business partner, Aria Boulanger. She was a silver fox, with the thickest, silkiest fur you've ever seen, legs for days, and amber eyes that would dazzle any doll or fella. Aria had been heir to the Boulanger Family, a crooked crew of foxes that were running the city from the underground. She'd never had the stomach for that kind of work though, so when she came to me saying she wanted to go straight, I obliged. She turned out to be a good detective, full of moxie. It was nice not to work alone for once, so I hired her permanently. We worked so many cases together after that, we were unstoppable. That is, until the crime dried up.

Now she was sitting in our office, reading the newspaper, no doubt looking for a headline that would land us a job. She must have felt my gaze on her, because she set the paper down and turned to look at me.

"If you're going to smoke that thing in here, at least open the darn window," She said, wrinkling her snout. I opened the window and flicked my cigarette butt out onto the street.

"Find anything good in the paper?" I asked. She pulled out a page and handed it to me. It was an article about a country across the sea, one I'd never heard of. Skimming the article, I gave her an inquisitive look. "Mossflower?"

"Yeah. It's a little backwater country with high crime rates. Apparently it's always in some kinda turmoil. Might be worth checkin' out."

"Maybe. Not like there's much for me here anymore. I can't pay the rent on my apartment, and it's been lonely since Tabitha left me for some rich mook." I said, setting down the newspaper and lighting up another cigarette. Aria rolled her eyes at me.

"Tabitha left you because you cared more about your job than her, and you're out there catcalling other women in the streets," Aria said, standing up. "Vermin City will do without us, why not explore other opportunities? Mossflower may not be as glamorous as it is here, but it's our best shot. We can always come back."

"Alright," I said, getting up from the windowsill. "Let's go to Mossflower."

-----

"What do you mean I can't bring my gun?!" Aria shouted at the travel official at the docks. The stoat held up his paws defensively.

"Miss, Mossflower is not like Vermin City. They don't have guns there. It would be irresponsible of us to let you take that kind of technology there. I-I'm gonna have to take your watch too. But don't worry, we'll have them stored for you and you can get them when you come back."
Reluctantly, Aria handed over all the modern tech she had on her to the clerk. When my turn came after hers, I handed over my gun to them. They inspected the rest of my luggage, and I was given a ticket.
Aria had waited for me by the ramp to board the boat. It was a big, old fashioned thing with sails. It was going to be a much longer trip than I anticipated. We boarded the ship together, setting off for our new life in Mossflower Country.

--------
"Hey careful with that, that suitcase is full of cigarettes and if you damage them, I'll kill you," I said to the shrew loading my things onto her raft. She rolled her eyes and threw my second suitcase onto the raft as well. Aria carried her own things onboard, setting them down before taking a seat near the edge of the raft so she could look out over the water. I sat next to her as the shrews pushed off from the shore, and we started our journey down the River Moss.

"Where are we headed anyway?" I asked Aria. She pulled a map out of her bag and unraveled it so I could see. She pointed to a spot upriver.

"Redwall Abbey. I read about it before we came. It's a wonderful old building with a rich history and--"

"Now hold on, I thought we were looking for work, not takin' a history tour," I said, interrupting her. She huffed and folded up the map, stuffing it back in her bag.

"We ARE looking for work. But I thought it'd be nice to take a little vacation first. Maybe get to know some of the local culture before we started looking for work." She explained as she took her violin out of its case. She began to play a song I quickly recognized as an old folk tune from back home. Laying down on the deck, I closed my eyes and just listened to the music. Maybe she was right. Maybe a vacation could be good.

--------
"I'm so sorry," the Abbess said, holding back tears. "Normally we'd welcome you to our Abbey with open arms. But I'm afraid something's happened."

"What's the matter, Abbess Mel?" the shrew guide asked. The Abbess looked nervously at the foxes, then down at the shrew before answering.

"I'm afraid that our bellringer, Brother Buckley, h-has been killed," She managed to say before she started sobbing. Aria and I exchanged glances while the shrew tried to calm the Abbess down. Aria stepped forward, and gently touched the distraught mousemaid on the shoulder.

"Abbess, my friend Florence and I, we'd like to help you if we could. Back home, we're actually quite well known for our crime solving skills" she said gently. The Abbess took a few moments to calm herself down before replying.

"W-well, I would appreciate the help. It may actually do us some good to have some outside perspectives. All three of you come inside, there's not a moment to waste."

We followed the Abbess through the main gate of the Abbey, which was locked behind us by a surly looking otter, who looked at Aria and I with distaste. What should have been Aria's vacation had now turned into our first job.

What is UP Warlords of Mossflower. Have YOU ever dreamed of becoming a pirate, and sailing the seven seas as we plunder, and score lots of loot, and maybe swim in a comically sized vault of coins?

Well NOW IS THE TIME.

Captain Krowdon is looking for Pirates to join the good ship "Abandon Ship"

There are NO REQUIREMENTS to join other than you want to have fun and pirate it up. Message Krowdon if you send in a request to join.

Things we plan to do:

1. Play the game in a fun, relaxed atmosphere
2. Use Pirate slang such as "Avast!" and "Whale off the starboard bow!"
3. Focus on teamwork and improving our game but in a casual manner
4. Sing sea shanties

Things we WILL NOT BE DOING:

1. We are not a teaching clan but we can help each other out if we need help.
2. We aren't here to challenge Sevz.
3. We will not be using landlubber slang like "Kids these days huh", or "What's the Wifi Password?"
4. Listen to music that's NOT sea shanties.

How does it calculate how many of each troop you need to enter? How does it calculate who wins? Does number of wins effect how many troops you need to enter?

July 27, 2015, 02:15:13 PM
I ordered a copy of The Long Patrol (as well as a few other books) from the Redwall website, and so they got here today.

Anyway, by nothing but pure luck, I ended up with a signed copy of The Long Patrol.

The other books I've ordered from them  all come with a printed autograph card, but like this book was signed on the title page and I can tell you I haven't been this happy about something in a long time.

Pictures to follow when I'm not on mobile

Also I am 100% full of farts. I can't stop farting. I am the gas express.

My sister got rear ended really bad and since repairing the damage to the car would cost more than it's is worth, we have no car now.

My sister is okay though and that's what matters I think. The other guy is okay too.

(I'll add the Abbey in later, I'm still working out my character but we can start with the vermin for now.)

In the remnants of a church, the horde set up their base camp. Hide had his men set him up inside the main building, under part of the roof that remained. His horde had grown in the past few weeks, vermin from around Mossflower had been recruited and coerced into joining.
Hide was building an army. He had found the red abbey place, and decided he wanted to make it his own. He was a leader, sure, but not a warlord. The Abbeybeasts wouldn't fear him. The stoat was small, soft spoken, not the usual horde leader material. He had earned his place though. Hide was a skilled Assassin, anyone who dared defy him didn't stick around to defy him for long. Direct warfare wasn't his style. If this was going to work, Hide was going to need some help.
Donning a mask made out of the skin of a ferret he'd killed, Hide left his tent to seek out Razco. The wildcat was new to his horde but was already proving to be a valuable asset, and may prove to be even more valuable.
He found the rat sitting just outside the ruins. Approaching, he motioned for the rat to follow him.
   "Razco. I need you."
