Say I was new, not being familiar with the player dynamics here at all, & I wanted to view the leaderboard, so in turn making a new Warlord. I see 2 Pokemon, one is clanned, the other is not: SCANDAL!

Was it a bad breakup? Did BamBam make Porygon swoon in a way that Growlithe could not? Did Growlithe see Porygon for the toxic virus of a Pokemon the he was, & knew the only healthy option was to focus on himself? Instead of just rebounding on the next dreamy-eyed Warlord?

I can only speculate~

Strategy / The most underutilized Stategy

This technique which I do recall fondly being one of the most enjoyable aspects of this game (& very likely the only real reason I've ever lingered in the top rank for longer than a couple days), is the more abstract aspect that allows us to interact in-game.

  • Diplomacy
  • Foreign Aid
  • The Mailbox
You'd really be surprised at how much easier a game becomes if you simply find a buddy~
I'll shout out Ryu as an example (not that we gang up much, or anything), who'd up until today, was a completely otherwise anonymous empire/warlord on the roster, but I know if I actually send a message, he'll respond & we can organize some mutually beneficial agreement -if not stated outright.
& I believe this to be true for just about any other warlord, barring inactive vacationing kicks in. But while the flamewars of yesteryears may be long gone, those of us still in there, doing stupid things to make the Land Farm unbreakable or playing a war of attrition, I'd say we're still by & large very approachable & cordial. Any new folks who find themselves here; don't let the oldschool slugfest intimidate you, & If you hit some unbreakable wall, odds are, a solution could really be just a message away~

Clans / The Society for Agrarian Supremacy
August 09, 2020, 05:35:28 PM
Since the first season that beast & bird alike impressed their paws & claws unto Earth, so too has each sought to impugn upon the other. These vermin are not unlike those today, who seek to own the earth they stamp upon, going on to such lengths as to shed blood indiscriminately upon her face to vindicate their claims. This Land, which has bore more Dibbuns than can be named, is so prized in Southsward, that Mossflowerians & Northlanders both encroach upon her with inconceivably expanding territory. However, it is in her power alone to perpetually rematerialize upon this prime material plane. Everybeast will always, in some respect, inevitably come into conflict with other beasts, even kin, for it is this eventuality, this symptom of the corruption, which festers in our vermin hearts.
In spite of our infectious malevolence, the Land Farm remains pure. It is the Land Farm that is divine. In contrast to our verminal hatred, the Land Farm is love, sans condition. Therefore the panacea to disolve our corruption is, quite simply, for us to elevate the true source of life by returning to her bosom, as nature intends. It is the villainous vermin who must, especially, be decomposed by the worms & into worms they shall become fertile soil. And as the evil decays from each bone, so too shall we all become pure as the Land itself: without infirmity, without disease, without the savagery of war.

Polling / The Merits of Redwall
August 02, 2020, 06:02:37 PM
Before finally coming here a google search revealed that this were the last playable Promisance anywhere online, but a curious thing I noticed before last round began; 7 active players out of 9 who'd started to play given June 2020's results (which is an improvement over the last site I'd burnt myself out over). It can seem a blur from the last time I was active in the game, but I've experienced the death of Promisance elsewhere whereon the same depressing server(s), populated only by 1-3 jaded players, the admins bore the burden of maintaining & hosting stagnating rounds to little personal benefit. Perhaps there've been declines & negligible rounds here as well, but there seems to be some difference here I'm finding difficult to articulate.
In the last round I was able to enjoy some dialogue between relative strangers who'd given me some hope that the game was not yet extinct. There, I felt inspired to create a thread to explore the concept that maybe the Vanilla themed (default, high fantasy oriented) Promisance so prolific once upon a time wasn't enough to keep it relevant. It has always been my go to theme in other games because I happen to be a fan of Tolkein, Salvatore, et al. and also, different, was at one point scary to me :P
Now that I'm here though & I see that there have been significant surges in activity in more recent history, I wonder if this variant has some quality that better supports this ageing game's shaky legs? There seems to be alot to like here, & while relearning that Leaders were just Wizards w/ a bigger plume in their hat, there seems to also be an otherwise solid community that has kept this beloved game alive. I believe that perhaps if I can understand it better, I can then appropriately promote it elsewhere online & in real life. I figure every little bit counts, but what are the thoughts of others?

Clans / Neophyter Knighthood
August 01, 2020, 04:46:31 PM
The Neophyter Knighthood is a young order, but not unlike, any great order, it is a force to be reckoned with as well as a Fratremity of the Chivalrous. We are not above skirmishes, however, we carefully observe the Code of Retal-Thrice; members are expected, if not at least encouraged to attempt land grabs from other domains in moderation. To clarify, this policy shall not apply to the Farm. To quote the verse therein Chapter 2 of the Book of Armaments:
Quote"Three shall be the number thou shalt count, and the number of the counting shall be three.
Four shalt thou not count, neither count thou two, excepting that thou then proceed to three.
Five is right out."
Attacks in excess of three, will be met by written warning with subsequent breaches resulting in dishonorable dismissal. Furthermore, if our members are too attacked, according to code, a given Warlord can expect a response in kind; excesses shall be met 1:1 & a follow-up letter of recommendation to avoid unnecessary suffering issued to offending parties. Egregious exercises in wanton belligerence will be met with a bullseye painted upon the hapless antagonist in question in order to bring him or her to heel or until the conflict is resolved via Diplomacy.

Here in our Commandery, those battle-tempered veterans whose code of conduct aligns with that of the Neophyter Knighthood, may consider themselves welcome to apply. However we above all seek to plant & cultivate the seeds of competent, noble, & competitive Warlords all across the land, for it is here that they may begin their training. For now our numbers are small, but they will grow.

General Discussion / A breath of fresh air~
July 31, 2020, 10:23:32 PM
So here I am; long time lurker, first time poster. Hope I'm not too terribly late to the party, as I evidently didn't give this site enough credit upon first discovering. The community seems a stand-up group o' people & I hope to share some dialogue herein as well as in-game soon.
