K9, in the show Dr. Who, is a robot dog. Seriously.

Also K-9 was a Dutch submarine, and K9 is generally the code for police dog units. For the Dr. Who robot dog and the police dogs. It's a pun on the word for dogs, "canine".

K-9 was a robotic dog that kept the fourth Doctor and Sarah Jane company. He also briefly said hello to the 10th Doctor.
