wolf bite

With the reappearance of old players we should introduce who we are to those that started after we left.

I am (lower case) "wolf bite". I started just a few months after the server came on line. I am a bit older than most because it was my son Bloodwake who asked me to join. Prior games similar to this one (same code) everyone played about the same way with even structures and armies. Probably I was the first to experiment with different playing styles and wrote the first manual on playing with strategies. In those days, surly bypassed many times by now, I had more time as Emperor than any other beast in the forest. I am happy to say that many have improved on those playing styles and even a few more have been invented. My method of approaching situations was said by "Beatles" to be "An iron fist in a velvet glove" and I was promoted to admin. I stopped playing competitively and teamed up with my buddy "Holby" to teach new players so that they would more enjoy the game. About 5 years ago I left the game.

That is me. Others that are returning introduce yourself. :)

Durza

My name is Durza (yes I took that from Eragon).  I am not one of the older players, having joined about 5 or so years ago.  During this time I have met and chatted with many different players who have been great pals.  This will be my first active game in about 3 years.  I however have been somewhat active on the forums, mostly ghosting with the occasional comment in Spa.

Like wolf bite, I've been here since the beginning, more or less. I was introduced to the game via a former admin, (Shorestar, if any of you oldbies know her) at Terrouge, which used to be the sister site to RWL. My original account was "The Hounds of Ulster", and that's easily my most well known account name, warlord number was either 13 or 23, I can't remember anymore. I played for a little bit, then schoolwork and a social life caused me to drift away. I came back my freshman year of college, that would have been 2003, so 3rd era of RWL, and I haven't really left since, except for short stints here and there. For most of my time at RWL, I've tended to team up with either Shadow or Holby, or usually both. At this point, between Shadow, Holby, and myself, we've probably been responsible for more server takeovers and emperors created than pretty much anyone else in the history of RWL. I haven't been playing actively of late, but I still check in on the forums.

The Lady Shael

I feel like most players already know who I am, but I haven't been around in a while.

Shael bio:

  • Started playing RWL in October 2002, two weeks after RWL started. Found it from a link on the Terrouge forums. My first account was The Black Raiders (#55).
  • My most well known account was Daughters of Delor (#679), since that's the account I had when I was Empress for a bit. Using my best skill of course, diplomacy. Which also ultimately ended up being my downfall.
  • I became a moderator a few years later, and in 2006, I became a RWL admin. Pretty soon after that Retto left and I became in charge of the RWL code, and I managed it on and off till about 2012.
  • Favorite saying: "Your wish is my command, as long as it complies with the rules."
  • Even though I've been here from the beginning, I've never been a strong player, and never really mastered the mechanics of RWL, despite having access to the code. What kept me passionate about the game was interacting with our awesome community of members, and coming up with cool themes and features, and responding to feedback. I loved managing this small but resilient community.
  • Just to make some of you feel old, I've been a member of RWL for almost half my life. I joined when I was 13, and I am currently 27 years old.

Favorite RWL memories (feel free to share your own!):

  • The "My Little Pony" takeover on the forums
  • Elections for Spa Room moderator
  • Some of the major themed Turbo rounds, like Storehouse and Pearls of Lutra
  • ....it's been so long but I'm sure there's dozens more.

RWLers, your wish is my command...as long as it complies with the rules.

Gen. Volkov

Haha, yeah, Ponytars were fun. Most of my major memories involve the themed clans, like ROME, or the Star Wars clan. More recently, League of the Scarlet Pimpernel, and the rebirth of Ereptor's TBV clan were fun too. There was also Fair Maiden, which actually was kinda boring after awhile, because we were too dominant, but the personalities in it were fun. Really, that's what I have the best memories of, late night MSN and TeamSpeak chats.

Here since first round, windhounds (#116)
Actually found it by Googling (Dogpile?) "Redwall game"

Mod since 2005
Admin since 2010
Have done mild feature adds and maintenance coding.

By far my favorite feature I worked on is the no-longer-in-use Turbo bots Shadow helped me with.  afaik they're the only promi-bots ever created, and were somewhat self sufficient.

Achieved Emp in Reg with Nero, who may have been Reg's first emp who's majority networth (86.08%) was comprised of food (7.6 bil).
Rose up after the clan Rome crumbed, sustained by bribing people with aid packets, iirc it was Neo who sacked me and brought an end to that..  but I got the full 10 days or whatevs.

And gawd, the MSN chats....  and some coordinated clan runs that took hours.
Funtimes.

Ungatt Trunn II

Krowdon

Hi!! I'm Krowdon!!

I joined RWL in late 2008, and joined the forums in 2009. I've always been Krowdon, and I always play fox. I'm not great at the game but I've learned a few things over the years so I can hold my own. I love the game but what I really love is the community here. I've made some great friends who I value a lot, and this site has the best staff I have ever seen on a smaller site like this.

Some of my fave RWL memories I guess are being in my clan, Empire of the Phoenix, and that summer Ungatt, Briar, Night Wolf, and I started the Redwall Spamlords. We got the ten second posting rule changed down to five or something lol.

Look forward to playing with you all!

Shadow

#8
I'm Shadow! I was around since the first (?) era, where my number was #793. My name is inspired by a minor character in the first Redwall book. I've spent far, far too much time on these forums, and even if the site disappeared today, it will almost certainly be the site I spent more time at than any other by the time I die.

Over many years I went from newbie, to frequent server takeovers, to moderator, and finally to admin and redwall developer. I'm largely responsible for RWL3.0. I have to concur with windy about the bots being my favorite feature - during the development process they were bloodthirsty killing machines that on several occasions depopulated entire servers before they could be stopped. We had to hobble them a bit for general use.

I've teamed up with just about everyone over the years. By far my favorite server takeover was with League, where we have 7 roughly equal "emperors", giving the server a fighting chance while also holding it for quite a while. I'm also one of the team members responsible for the most dominant emperor of all time, as far as I know: Holby's takover was so comprehensive we eventually had to release the server ourselves since there was no change for anyone to catch up.

Redwall was more or less my first experience on the internet, and certainly my first experience interacting with people online. Lots of fond memories.

Uiblis

#9
My tag is Uiblis, I've been around since 2008 but didn't make a forum account til far later. I'm a lot younger than many of the true veterans like shadow, volky, windy, etc. Started when I was 13 or 14, currently 20, so RWL has honestly been a pretty big part of my life.

Like everyone else, I started out as a newbie but later became one of the more formidable leaderers on either server.
Suppose my claim to fame is being the first "official" emperor of the new era in reg after that feature was coded in. Post food networth nerf too hehe

Started going inactive a little bit after 3.0 dropped and reg started to stagnate after sevz and co gave up on it. Super excited to get back into the swing of things. The days where I would schedule runs at like 3 in the morning so I would optimize turn use and not waste any past the cap...feels so long ago.

Special shoutouts to Shadow for answering my questions and giving me code/math for various game mechanics, as well as sharptooth for being a fantastic teammate in our many adventures in various turbo rounds.
I love bad [berries] that's my [fruity] problem

Firetooth

I'm Firetooth, younger brother of sharptoo(t)h. We're both brits who have played with all sorts for almost a decade, and I've also played across a couple of other promis - mostly Valhalla, Imperium (think that was the name?) and F&F. Me and my brother used to have a clan with another Brit (Pippin) called The Armada, and we also had a clan on Agency with Shadow, Volkov and Uibilis for a while on reg - we'd fight Sevz & Co and make Volk sort-of emp when we had the time. I used to run with Krowdon and a bunch of others in the Phoenix Clan in reg, worked with Sevz a bit when I was learning the ropes of new turbo, then worked with Shadow, Volk and Sharp to break Sevz and Snare's monopoly on new turbo rounds.

I've been involved with various other bits and pieces, most of which I can only vaguely remember...think I held the funds for Fair Maiden in the run-up to Holby being super-emp.

I've probably argued and feuded with most people on this site at some point, though definitely less so as I've aged...I can have a short temper and didn't use to be a very good loser (please don't read my old posts). But despite the tooth tag, I don't bite.

Like lots of people here, RWL was my first experience interacting with people across the world via the Internet, long before the smart phone age. I began playing RWL in my formative years, and as well as providing competitive fun, the community here really rubbed off on me. Even when I didn't play much or have much time, I'd always pop into the madness over in Spa 101 to hang with the guys there (Krowdog, Unga, Briar, Night Wolf, Durza and many more). Plus, the debates (some of which were fairly heated) in UmD over the years probably helped shape the person I am haha. So I am immensely grateful that I discovered this site as a nerdy pre-teen all those years back, and very nostalgic to be returning for this event. :)

I'm currently in top position by a huge margin BUT I'm intentionally dropping down to the bottom.

Juska

Hello, I'm Juska. As a kid I loved the Redwall series and about thirteen years ago I found this site, taking my name from the Redwall book I was reading at the time. I think the Juska are a clan in Taggerung, but it's been a while since I've read any of the books. I started when Wolf Bite was emperor and his clan (Raiders or something?) dominated the top 10, one of the real old-timers can correct my memory and figure out the era. From RWL I found QM Promisance (RIP) where I played under the name Perseus, but I always enjoyed the community and especially the role play focus here at RWL. I brought the indy to strategy to RWL and have long lobbied to nerf the leadering and food hoarding strategies, albeit unsuccessfully. I've had some great times here in the past, although the Commanders server sticks out in my mind as particularly fun. It's the game interaction and role-playing that makes this game so much fun, so I encourage anyone playing to not just run turns every three days, but to send in-game messages, craft a bit of a story about your warlord, and post in the forums. Glad to have a reason to come back and play a round, good luck everyone.

You too?

Surprised I still have an account, but the email/password combo I used to use a decade ago works so...

I'm Beatles, probably started playing even earlier than anyone who's posted so far, idk maybe except Volkov? I was either right before or right after Hounds of Ulster. You guys should bring Nevadacow back, he was #2 on the original server, after Boze. Oh yes, server takeovers were fun, the most fun clan takeover that I can remember was Rome. But my favorite was when a group of us took down and killed the top three players in two nights of frantic planning in AIM chatrooms on Medieval Empires, run by Turlock. That was Devari, Volkov, windy, Freen, Turlock, Jacob, Urran Voh, Nuclear Raunch, Neo I think?

Made many friends over the years, many that I still stay in touch with. Ran Frost and Flame for a long time. Stopped playing a long long time ago - my new passion is quidditch! - and I doubt if I'll play this time but thought I'd say hi! Ping me if Holby unretires for this one too.

Scarwake

Well, I started quite some time ago as well...I believe it was pretty close to the beginning but I cannot remember when exactly.  Its been quite some time since I've been on the forums or played the game.  Having played mostly in high school, as I grew older other things took priority but I always had terrific memories of RWL.  Befriended several folks while playing the game and I've met a couple in person as well.  I met The Lady Shael sometime ago when we were both in High School...Last year I finally met Abby the Rat and Lauren the Badger.  Usually, I team up or with with Bloodwake, and had created the Guardians of the Blade clan.  I'm also a Global Moderator of the Forums.

Hope to see many more come back  :D
