The French national team defeated Spain today in a dramatic match which may well be one of the best of the tournament. David Villa opened the scoring with a penalty, but Franck Ribery rounded off Iker Casillas to score his first international goal. When the game seem destined for extra time, Patrick Vieira nodded a set piece goalwards, and it took a cruel deflection off of Sergio Ramos to beat Casillas. Then French skipper Zinedine Zidane added the third goal to kill the match off in stoppage time. France are set to face Brazil in the quarter finals in what could be a classic match.

Goals: Spain - Villa... France - Ribery, Vieira, Zidane

This game featured few cards, which was a pleasant thing. Ribery picked up a stupid booking for kicking the ball away that could come back to bite him in the butt if he picks up another booking, because he would face a one match suspension.
Glory, Glory, Man United!
