Quote from: The Weasel Liberation MovementUm... I don't think so. Perhaps the original idea for Warbands was from Karlin, but I doubt much in FaF was even his idea.
Just to let everyone know, this is Karlin the Warrior.
I was informed of this topic by an anonymous source.

You're wrong, Weasel. Frost and Flame was my idea from the very beginning. The entire concept (as well as that of Warbands) was my creation. A good deal of the main features were concocted by me. Yes, Beatles has done all the grunt work. He deserves far more credit than I do. However, Frost and Flame is still just as very much mine as it is his.
Frost and Flame will probably be hosted on www.sword-of-redwall.com (if I can finally clear up these idiotic PayPal technical difficulties, *grumble grumble*), and will be a production of The Sword of Redwall, officially made by Beatles and Karlin the Warrior.

Yes, Beatles is the genius who does the Frost and Flame programming and puts in long hours working his rear off to make such an awesome game come into reality. Yes, I am the one who comes up with the so-called big ideas. Together we've made something that, I think, will rock the entire ROC to its core!

And NO, we're NOT leaking any of the game features! The beta version is in testing, and none of you are getting a peep at it until Beatles decides otherwise.

As for the original topic of this topic:
Ringo is in the wrong. He really needs to PUT UP THAT SOURCE CODE before he finds himself in court. Nobody will complain if he just sticks it up for download. If he'll do that, nobody's gonna press charges. The GNU community is very kind and patient (fortunately for all of us :)).

Ringo?

...it's Retto, y'fool!

Burninate

Not fool... I mean Retto, Ringo, sounds alike, right?

Btw, Nick, I didn't mean a legal procedure, just legal backing. I said that earlier. So...

The Weasel Liberation Mov

Oops, very sorry Karlin. Wasn't quite sure...

And Ihad no plans to leak any features.

Here are my personal opions. If the RWL team are breaking the law, why? Are you willing to risk money and being sued over a computer game. I doubt it. We all understand this is your work, and personally if no one gives you credit then you could give them so much trouble they would probably end up just putting in your name. I mean, bother them till they go insane. There are many people here, terrouge, and other ROC games that know you created the code. Also, the whole thing about bugs... Its just making them do more work. Dont you want them to have to work to put up your source?

And as stated before, if it comes down to what is legle, I belive Wolf Bite is a lawyer. He could probably straighten this out, correct?

By the way, FaF sounds cool, though advertising for a game without permission is against the rules. I won't tell if you don't.

So quiet
Another wasted night
The television steals
The conversation
Exhale
Another wasted breath
Again it goes unnoticed.

Please tell me you're
Just feeling tired
'cause if it's more than
That I feeel that I might break
Out of touch  out of time.
Please send me anything
But signals that are mixed
Cause I can't read
Your rolling eyes
Out of touch
Are we out of time?

Close lipped
Another goodnight kiss
Is robbed of all it's passion,
Your grip
Another time, is slack
It leaves me feeling empty.

I'll wait until tomorrow
Maybe you'll feel better then
Maybe we'll be better then
So what's another day
When I can't bear
These nights of thoughts
Of going on without you
This mood of yours is temporary
It seems worth the wait
To see your smile again
Out of the corner of your eye
Won't be the only way
You'll look at me then.

-------------------------------------------------

I'm missing your bed
I never sleep
Avoiding the spots
where we'd have to speak
And this bottle of
beast is taking me home.
I'm cuddling close
to blankets and sheets
You're not alone
and you're not discreet.
You make sure I know
who's taking you home.
I'm reading your
note over again.
There is not a word
that I comprehend
except when you signed it
"I will love you always
and forever"

As for now I'm gonna
hear the saddest songs,
and sit alone and wonder
how you're making out
But as for me I wish that I was anywhere
With anyone
making out

I'm missing your laugh,
how did it break?
And when did your eyes
begin to look fake?
I hope you're as happy
as your pretending.
I'm missing your bed,
I never sleep.
Avoiding the spots
where we'd have to sleep.
And this bottle of
Beast is taking me home.

Your hair
It's everywhere
Screaming infidelities
Taking it's wear
------------------------------------------

Consider the odds
consider the obvious.
The martyr is meaningless
the campaign has died.
In the planning stages
and the fallen faces
are the singular proof
that it was ever alive.

This purchased rebellion
has been outdated
denounced and rescinded
and left to die championless.
I begged you not to go.
I begged you  I pleaded.
Claimed you as my only hope
and watched the floor
as you retreated.

Hope has sprung a perfect dive
a perfect day, a perfect lie.
A slowly crafted monologue
conceding your defeat.

Does it comfort you to know
you fought the good fight?
Basking in your victory,
hollow and alone
to boast your bitter
bragging rights
to anyone who'll listen.
While you're left with
nothing tangible to gain
----------------------------------------------

Whatever poisons in this bottle
will leave me broken, sore and stiff
But it's the genie at the bottom who I'm sucking at,
he owes me one last wish
So here's a present to let you know I still exist
I hope the next boy that you kiss has something terribly contagious on his lips

But I got a plan (I got a plan)
To drink for forty days and forty nights
A sip for every second-hand tick
And every time you fed the line,
?you mean so much to me?
I'm without you

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say

And even if her plane crashes tonight
she'll find some way to disappoint me,
by not burning in the wreckage,
or drowning at the bottom of the sea
Jess, I still taste you, and thus reserve my right to hate you
And all this empty space that you create
does nothing for my flawless sense of style
It's 8:45 (it's 8:45), the weather is getting better by the hour (rains all the time)
I hope it rains there all the time
And if you ever said you miss me then don't say you never lied
I'm without you

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say,
who would do anything you say

Never gonna get it right, you're never gonna get it [15x]

Okay no more songs about you. After this one I am done.
You're gone.[repeat untill end]

Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say
Tell all the English boys you meet
about the American boy back in the states
The American boy you used to date
who would do anything you say

Last night I swallowed liquor and a lighter
and this morning I threw up fire
But it's nothing new
I've been piecing it together and it's got something to do
with every look thrown like a knife across a crowded room
And every slow and quiet car ride I spent drinking in the backseat
Every stupid melody to every stupid song,
and every stupid word that everybody's hanging on

What difference does this difference in age make?
I know how it ends... she'll kill me quick.
Call 911, I'm already dead but
someone should be caught and held responsible
for this bloody mess

Last night I fell asleep next to a liar
and I woke up with a shiner
And it's all that I remember from a night spent lying on my back with a view
of a stone white ceiling and the back of your head
And this quiet dark bed feels like the middle of nowhere
And we beat each other up just like we always do
When I'm talking to myself I'd always rather be talking to you

What difference does this difference in age make?
I know how it ends... she'll kill me quick.
Call 911, I'm already dead but
someone should be caught and held responsible
for this bloody mess

Call homicide, take the case to court
Cause her lips taste like a loaded gun
I'm her number one chalk outline on the floor

They hung her from the bridge on Monday
The gathering turned to a mob out on the lawn
They dropped her body in the river
School and work returned to normal before long
(before long... and no one will mention any of this again)

Call 911, I'm already dead but
someone should be caught and held responsible
for this bloody mess

Call homicide, take the case to court
Cause her lips taste like a loaded gun
I'm her number one chalk outline on the floor

I got a twenty-dollar bill
That says no one's ever seen you without makeup.
You're always made up.
And I'm sick of your tattoos
and the way you always criticize the Smiths.
and Morrissey.

And I know that you're a sucker for anything acoustic.
But when I say let's keep in touch,
I really mean I wish that you'd grow up.
This is the first song for your mix tape.
It's short just like your temper,
But somewhat golden like the afternoons
We used to spend before you got too cool.

For the record ... (and if you don't believe I am who I say I am, feel free to e-mail me at ppurgett@users.sourceforge.net and ask)

now, after receiving an e-mail from Retto and reading it in it's entirety, I further explained my intentions with the "Promisance Public License". The reason it is the way it is, is to allow everyone and equal chance to look at and work on it ("it" being the Promisance source code). However, there have been some (and I will not point any fingers, though I could easily use both hands to count how many times I've seen it) individuals that have taken the source code, altered all the credits and other identifying information and made it their own.

That is theft. But, the way I see it, downloading the open source code, making your own alterations, then making your alterations public, then they have been completed (or at least to your best ability) (Example: Code is "pushed live", that's when), making the source code available, I have NO troubles with.

To my understanding, the devs of Redwall: Warlords have an expansion in the making and intend on making the source available when it's ready to go live, while I highly encourage sharing beta code (find bugs/problems faster, occasionally), I merely enforce that the "stable code" be made open.

Since license agreements are all about enforcement (and technically, I hold more "enforcement weight" than anyone over at QMT does) and the way I've just explained, is how I enforce it... that's the way it is.

My 2 biggest concerns when I made Promisance open source -- theft (as described above) and the credits being altered to remove my work done on the project.

That is how I enforce the Promisance source code... sure, there's ways to abuse the way I enforce it, but I tend to be notified of them in fairly short order and have it taken care of. Sometimes all it takes is a simple asking and it's done.

I don't have the funding for multiple banks of lawyers (or even 1 for that matter) and I'm not about to sweat the small stuff.

So there you have it. If anyone has any further objections to how I enforce my own software's license agreement, they can be sent to /dev/null or root@localhost.

So... what your saying is Retto has the oppertunity to leave the source code from the public untill he makes his finalized version without bugs?

Sounds fair to me.

Now hopefully we can call this matter settled, and go back to spats about things that don't, in the end, have legal-type proceedings as a possibility?

How about arguing about cheese? That's always an old favourite... or maybe we can bring Josh back and let him cause the controversy. *snerks* *sees the distaste on the otter's face* or not...  :P

Burninate

Fair enough. I shall of course wait for Vera's opinion as well (Holby is on holiday) and Nevadacow if he is here, but from my side, fair enough.
Blackhawk - I'd like to thank you in the names of those who have carried on the debate for taking your time to come here and settle the matter.
